First Star Fleet officer of German descent?

Hey,
I just startet reading David Mack's tie in novel "Desperate Hours", albeit in German ("Gegen die Zeit"). I noticed that helmsman Leyla Detmer (the red haired woman on the shenzou bridge) is described as from Düsseldorf (the german city). I'm wondering if that is just a thing in the german translation or if its also in the original novel? That would mean, that we have the first star fleet officer of German descent (at least I can't remember another) after so many other nationalities were portrayed.

Second question: There's also a red haired woman on the discovery bridge in some promo pictures, wearing this cyber connection thingy on the head. Is it the same character?

You know, I've been wondering about that second question, myself. I think it is her, but I haven't gotten a lengthy enough look to confirm. Also, I wasn't even sure whether or not it was the Discovery's bridge I was looking at.

I think it was a pic with Captain Lorca in it. So I'm pretty sure its the Discovery.

@seigezunt Yes, I'm sure you're right about that (although I have no information handy to prove or disprove it), but this is not a novel character, but a real onscreen character from an episode.

It's no big thing, just something I noticed and I liked...

...The "novel" thing here would be a tie-in book actually establishing that a character with a German-sounding name in fact comes from Germany. I don't think that ever happened with Jaeger.

Also, I don't think onscreen Trek has ever established a German character. Names can be deceiving (says Captain Georgiou, and smiles sagely).

Did she survive the wreck of the Shenzhou?
If so, I eagerly await her ordering some Königsberger Klopse from a replicator.

At least she’s not dying onscreen and there are a lot of evacuation capsules getting away ;-)

I guess we don't know that Bashir is Middle-Eastern, only that he is English. (Or is he?)

For someone from Düsseldorf, this would be treason! And why would anyone drink such thing as Koelsch? :barf:

Not sure which pictures you're referring to but there's a redhead cadet serving on on the Discovery, Tilly.

Because the parties and techno are better, and she'd fit in at Rosenmontag.

(Too be fair, Alt and Koelsch are both great, but you can drink Koelsch all day long. I know: I suffered through the 2003 heatwave.)

Outside of Georgiou, Doctor Nambue, Danby Connor, I doubt we're going to be seeing much of the Shenzou's crew again.

And I'm 99.9% sure that the redheaded crewmember we see on Discovery is Cadet Tilly, played by Mary Wiseman.

That’s the pic I’m speaking of (bad quality, sorry)

Found a better one:

Yeah, that looks like Detmer.

Pretty sure that is Detmer just with prosthetic enhancements probably due to the Battle of the Binary Stars. Aside the shaved head/ metal enhancement you can see her left eye is a different color than her right (replacement eyeball?).
