If There is a Second Season, We May Wait a While...

Hollywood Reporter reports that should there be a second season, it may not premiere until "early" 2019.

There have been preliminary conversations about when and how [a second season could air] and we've been very consistent in our message, which is that rather than announce a date and have to push again, let's take into consideration everything we've learned from this season. Now we know what we can do and where the sand traps are, so let's give ourselves ample time to announce a date that makes sense to everybody — both the needs of production and CBS. Breaking story is, in some ways, the easier and faster thing; it's the ability to execute on it that's much harder. We want to take the right amount of time and don't want to rush.

So ideally, season two could bow in 2019?

Ideally, on the early side of 2019.

A year between seasons would be asking a lot. What does CBS expect people to stay subscribed in the meantime for?

I'm sure there people who subscribe and have no interest in Star Trek.

I never had any intention of keeping my subscription active during the shows off season time anyway. But waiting until 2019 is not good.

Year long breaks are pretty common for streaming shows. At least Discovery is dished out weekly so if it does come out early 2019, it could just be a 9 or 10 month wait between seasons.

There will be 15.5 months in between the two seasons of Stranger Things on Netflix. The most recent seasons of House of Cards were 15 months apart, after previously being a year apart.

Hopefully, for the subscribers, CBS will add to its catalog. Right now, it is a paucity of good choices.

I've found two older shows so far I'd like to rewatch that aren't on Amazon Prime, so I'd have to pay for them on Amazon. I'll take advantage of that while I'm paying for Star Trek. Other than that, they just don't have much I want to see.

If DSC pushes to early 2019, JJ:Trek 4 is rumored to be out June 2019 as well. That'll be a lot of trek for one year.

There won't be a Trek 4. Beyond bombed too heavily.

I'm fine with Discovery being delayed. Gives them time to rework the show if future episodes aren't received well.

I wonder if Discovery will be on ITunes after the season ends. Now that I have Apple TV, I can see myself adding the show to my digital collection, if it improves.

I imagine this is to give them space and see about going with an Anthology series or to continue to follow the current era.

If Beyond underperformed or not, it makes little difference. There’s no such rumor for Trek 4 coming out in June 2019. That’s wishful thinking, not a rumor.

And a year between seasons is the norm in big productions such as Game of Thrones or Westworld.

It's looking more and more like there will be a 2nd season since the first two eps weren't total failures.

Just cancel your subscription in the mean time. No need to line Les Moonves pockets for his mediocrity. CBS All Access is a racket. They charge and want to show ads at the same time.

I don't care about the subscription aspect because we're constantly subbed to Netflix anyway, but I just hate a long wait between seasons ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's working just fine for Marvel with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Fists of Irony. S3 of Daredevil won't be around until next year, don't even get me started on how long we've been waiting for JJ's second season!

But, I suppose The Defenders kind of kept the momentum and consciousness of the characters circulating to maintain interest. At the same time, Doctor Who has had a few gap years and half-years since 2005 and we're onto our fifth Doctor for this generation in 2018.
