I want to know who watched this DSC premiere on CBS in standard definition?
No not because they chose the wrong channel on their cable box and got the standard definition channel on their HDTV but who watched it on an old CRT tube TV with a 4:3 ratio?
And yes I realize many will have used rabbit ear antenna via a digital tuner box with analog composite video RCA out to their TV.

Did anyone turn down the chroma (color) all the way on a CRT tube TV to simulate black and white while watching this DSC premiere?
Did you feel like you were missing anything buy not watching in high definition?
Do you watch most of your television in standard definition on this TV?

Some fans want everything to look like the 1960s, so they might as well have watched on a tube television.
I prefer movies and television programs from that era, but I watch on a contemporary HDTV because the high resolution and color depth more closely approximate the look of 35mm film than CRT TVs ever did.

I have my old CRT yet. It works just fine... why replace something that still works? Not that I watch much TV anyway...I watched some of Discovery last night... doesn't matter to me if it is in HD or whatever... my TV works, so I am keeping it. :)

Personally, I'm kind of a semi-videophile. When I watch a movie or TV show, I want to it to be an immersive experience, not just a diversion. So I'm big on picture quality. Watching something in high resolution on a 42-inch TV (or bigger, if you have room) beats the snot out of the 26-inch CRT TV I used to have. There's just no comparison.

As far as I know, my cable provider does not offer a 4:3 ratio CBS channel. There is the choice between watching the SD or HD channel, but the SD channel still shows a 16:9 image in 4:3 letterbox -- not the 4:3 image with the sides cut off.

Granted, about 2 or 3 (maybe more?) years ago, the HD CBS channel was the 16:9 version and the SD was the 4:3 version (with the sides of the 16:9 picture missing), but that's not the case anymore for me.

...But to answer the OP's question, where I live (in Bedrock) I watched it on a slab of rock onto which a monkey chiseled in the image.

I watched the first 5 minutes in HD on my phone, wirelessly, while on the can. How far technology has come ;)
