Things you HATED about this show. As much as there are positives about STD there is much CRINGE!

RobertCardassian

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
The Good:
1). Sonnequa - wow wow wow, she's a great actress. I like that they're doing the reverse Spock too. A human struggling to act Vulcan
2). Yeoh (I like her character - no spoilers)
3). Great effects

The Meh:
1). The Abrams-ization of the TOS technology in a supposed Prime timeline. Where are the analog controls? Why is everything digital all of a sudden. They could have handled this is a cooler way---maybe kept all the knobs and dials but added LED screens, etc. An aesthetic compromise could have been worked out. This tech seems more advanced than Voyager!

The UGLY / CRINGE / HATE!!!!
1). Purple sparkle Klingons
2). Klingons as a metaphor for Trump supporters. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SOVIETS! Stop twisting canon and forcing a square peg into a round hole
3). Lifting the story of the first two episodes from Balance of Terror, but swapping the Klingons in for the Romulans. WHAT. THE. F.
4). Doug Jones whatever the heck that orange guy is. Looks like a cheap rubber Halloween costume that someone superglued to his face

Wut?

How are these two things even remotely similar?

Also, Jones gave the standout performance.

Not making this up. Right from the writer's mouth. "What began as a commentary on our own divided nation - in terms of Trump supporters and non-Trump supporters"

When was the last time you watched Balance?
In Balance, Star Fleet encounters the Romulans face to face for the first time even though they had battled them 100 years before in vehicles

I thought he was awful. Like a lame rubber orange version of Data or Spock. Very flaccid character.

You're putting words in Herbert's mouth.

That's like saying "Shore Leave" and "The Man Trap" are the same episode because Kirk and Bones beam down to a planet.

Dislikes

Sonnequa - She showed once again that she can't act worth a damn.
Klingons - The massively screwed the pooch with the makeup and klingonese it made them sound like they barely knew their lines.
The large number of plot holes.
The horrible storyline.

The sets and graphics were pretty.

I....what? Even the reviews that are meh on the show (not that there's many) say that only through the sheer will of her acting is it saved.

I didn't like how fucking DARK it was, it reminded me a lot of the Kelvin scenes in 09 with how dark it was, but at least they were on emergency power and shit. I guess it was for a cinematic look.

I didn't like the holo communicator thing, not only is it not really canon when you consider it was a prototype in DS9, but I always prefered them speaking on screen.

I don't like how it appears to be set up to be majorly arc stories, I'm hoping it isn't just deadly serious all the time and we have some science based episodes based on scientific theories we know of now.

But I do like the show.

The dialogue in the first episode, in the opening scene with the captain and the first officer and later on the bridge with them and Saru was cringe-inducing. They were going for humor and cleverness but they were anything but.

Show too WAY too long having the (three) crewmembers debate what was out there and investigate.

Using Klingons as allegories to Trump voters. Although the opening episode was more insulting to Klingons in general.
