Thoughts on the USS Shenzhou (Trailer Edition)

so does the shenzhou have red-glowing warp field grilles by design? or is she severely damaged (as we know she will be)?
giphy.gif

the only time we've ever seen a federation ship with red glowing nacelles was when the enterprise-d was destroyed in "cause and effect", so i'm guessing it's that, but every shot i've seen of her with the grilles visible, they've been red.
Seeing it on loop, it looks like external Red Alert lighting. Which is a really cool and smart idea, IMHO. Visually warning other ships that this one is ready to kick ass if need be.

Naah. Those are just ventral windows that let the interior Red Alert lights shine through...

(It's actually a bit of a problem that we see yellowish glow through those portholes. Won't the interior sets be ominously bathed in red in the scene above, in all probability?)

You know what. If they really really want to (I really hope they don't want to) they could explain this too. Just imagine, the Discovery will meet up with a Constitution class starship, Cmdr Burnham beams aboard and she is surprised by what she sees: a ship exactly built like in the TOS. She asks: this looks so simple, so basic, why is that? The engineer on the ship replays: when they have designed the Constitution class they have decided that this ships will go into long voyages, first for 5 year missions than for 10-20 years and we thought that keeping it as simple as possible, without the technology of the advanced Federation technique we can help the crew minimize the problems they could run into operating the ship and also it is easier to repair if something really goes wrong in the long mission. And suddenly we can have all the TOS connies as cannon and present and still have advanced starships.

How does that explain the ship's color palette?

For me, I think it's the bright colors more than anything that make it look dated. The Enterprise of Pike's era was silver and black and I'd say even that would look more close to Discovery than the Enterprise of Kirk's time.

paint some flames on the side... and maybe, like, a rainbow unicorn.

Ok that line in the Orville did make me chuckle. Also his other line "My nephew paid me in pills to shoot a porn in back of the shuttle" He and the nav were high points of that sad thing.

I liked the Bridge under the Saucer, it could be the Bridge of the captains yacht too, or maybe its seperateable for escape reasons. Over all, i liked the whole exterior design, it looks raw and heavy used, like an older ship has to. It looks very functional. Interior is nice too, little jj-ish, but thats okay its state of the art. Really, really nice ship so far. I´m looking forward what trekyards has to say about it.

Sorry my english is not very good... Austrians

If the ship crashes the bridge staff will be the first to get crushed.

If it goes down on its belly. Depending on the damage, a starship could very well crash top first.

Pretty sure that might be a design element. If she flipped over, that smooth reinforced topside would just slide along taking minimal damage, and stopping the entire engineering section being crushed too.
