Colin Trevorrow no longer directing Episode IX.

I'm actually glad they did this. I liked Episode VII a lot, so unlike with Star Trek I'm actually interested in seeing JJ Abrams back for another SW movie. I seriously doubt it will be a RotJ rip off (they had legitimate reasons for making Episode VII the way they did, and I think its a great movie). Even as someone who liked Jurassic World and was ok with the first director, I think JJ Abrams will do a better job with episode IX.

Well JJ is unquestionably a huge improvement over Trevorrow. I just hope the script has a little more substance this time out and with Terrio co-writing....I don't know. Could go either way.

I almost never agree with your opinions but I give credit to someone when I do agree with them.

TFA made some choices I might have liked to see done differently but they where made for specific reasons. One thing it's nothing like ANH is the ending. Or any of the previous films. It's mostly setup for the next film. TLJ literally starts right when TFA ends. ITs really half of a film. IT will be easier to judge if that was a smart choice once we see TLJ.

I would have been ok if Rian Johnson did Episode 9 but that was probably impossible. He is probably burned out to jump right into another. I am constantly bemused that fans are sure Rian made a fantastic SW, when they have not seen more than a teaser at this point.

I am glad that JJ returns means consistency will be mantained. He set all this up and can resolve it. He has worked with most of the actors. He even worked with Rian in setting up TLJ.

I am fine with the choice. JJ did what he sat out to do with TFA, he jump started SW and while I was watching TFA I was a 10 year old again. It's nice that he will book end the trilogy. I just hope TLJ is as good as people are assuming it will be.

The absolute best Abrams can do is mediocre.

He's also writing the screenplay. Expect the movie to be filled with fan service wanks.

Everything he's directed has been derivative.

Oh great. A remake of 'The Return of the Jedi' is on the way.

I loved TFA by the way but it's quite a safe play.

Oh, my, the fan rage is already strong here.

I would've preferred a new director, but I'm good with J.J. Abrams returning because he's already well verse with the universe, the production team, and the actors. I may have some quibbling issues with The Force Awakens (the biggest being unable to follow the laws of physics with everyone seeing the galactic destruction caused by Starkiller Base) but I overall loved the film. Hopefully, Rian Johnson can still be involved on some level for the story.

J.J is great so I'm really happy with this though I was hoping he might of returned to Star Trek but this will do.

JJ is one of the best visual-focused directors out there, that can also work well with actors. So that's a bonus allright!
I had no issues with TFA being very similar to ANH, but I am a bit worried about EpIX being more like ROTJ now. Thing is, that depends on the writing, and did JJ write TFA as well?
