Seems dumb. They will probably relent, and the developer could very well restrict the game to non-Malaysian countries only. Region locking is pretty common on Steam, after all.

That would seem the logical option but they are not really a logical country. Even some foods like hotdogs have had the ban hammer.

The food itself isn't banned. They're just requiring businesses to call it something other than "hot dog" because the name literally sounds like the item is made from dog, which is not halal.

For us in the west, it's absolutely unthinkable for laws to have a religious basis. While in certain other areas, it's absolutely unthinkable for them not to.

Well I do live in a more liberal, secular area. And the idea is just simple separation of church and state. I would think it's "crazy bizarro" if they suddenly started passing laws that were based on religious codes.

You said quite specifically "for us in the west" not "for me in my tiny little bubble". These are entirely different prepositions.

Also, wherever the fuck you live, I promise you that most of the governing laws of the land are very much rooted in whatever religion(s) have been dominant there in the previous centuries, whether you're aware of that fact or not. That's just a fact of history I'm afraid.

Can you imagine the US west coast or any of secular Europe having prayer in public schools or outlawing certain behaviors or food or drink solely because they aren't permitted in some religions? Those geographic areas aren't "tiny little bubbles."

I'm sorry if that offends your sensibilities. However, I think that's sufficient coverage of this topic for a video game forum. My point was to offer some contextual explanation for banning the name "hot dog" and blocking a gaming service in a Muslim country, not to start a confrontational argument. I'm done here.

Yes I can imagine because I'm British, I went to a County Primary school (i.e. *not* a church run school of any description) and yes we had prayer and hymns in every assembly. Also, you're not offending my sensibilities. I'm an atheist. I'm not advocating religious laws, I'm stating that their existence in western society is a stone cold fact.

What you are offending however is my intelligence by making wildly inaccurate sweeping statements, as if Malaysia is some utter backwater and nothing like that could *ever* happen here in the "civilised world".
