Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

I'll speak plainly as it seems the point isn't getting across.

I don't think a childish boob joke is the best way to start of Whitaker's tenure as the Doctor.

Though, that said, I would take a childish boob joke from Sarah Silverman, as she would be able to contextualize it in a way that shows how stupid and sexist boobs jokes are.

The difference is were talking about a 20 second joke vs someone doing a stand up routine. I don't think anyone wants them to spend all that much time and focus on the change and instead just toss in a random joke from time to time. Also risque jokes aren't always childish. It all comes down to delivery and the character. It not always political correct but then again most of the best jokes and drama tend to be like that.

My take on political correctness is that it's basically another word for, good manners. It's about creating a civil enviroment for people to live in, and if if you don't agree with someone you still show enough class and respect to at least treat them like a human being. Great concept for real life but something that I see as hindrance to things like movies, music and any form of art. What you want from those is some deeper honesty and more in depth look about the human condition. Since the human race is deeply flawed it's dishonest to pretend it isn't.

Not to mention that humans are simply more drawn to our negative traits when it comes to entertainment and frankly even the world. It's why something like 9/11 goes from being something horrible to just another tv show on CNN. It's why we like violence in movies and human beings acting bad to each other. Sometimes something goes to far and people get offended but really anyone can say that about anything. We know some people are pissed at "Preacher" for how it showed, Jesus to be. On the other hand many aren't so who should really get to say which way to go? Some people like shows that take chances and others want shows to be more conservative and try and be more broad in it's appeal.

Doctor Who is one of those shows that I think tends to go for the more broad aproach. It's never going to be a HBO type of show. Yet it still has to relay on the things that appeal to human beings like conflict, violence, sex etc. It simply uses more PG-13 level ways of doing it. That's why your cock joke is to far but a 20 second mention of a bra seems like a good enough way to go. It's kind of risque but not really anything that is shocking to anyone. Nothing that wouldn't be okay on most of tv.

When it comes to avoiding overt sexism I would want to avoid sex jokes. Sex jokes might work for some characters on other shows but the doctor has always been asexual from what I can tell. I think it's good to maintain that tradition. Other than Captain Jack i'm not sure were you could even do that and make it feel natural. Maybe a double entendre when the character is more established. That's usually about the level of sex gets on the show. Seems fine to keep it at that level.

Also no skimpy outfits for the doctor. I think that is something they also don't have any plans to do. At the same time they shouldn't dress her like a old maid either. One issue not mentioned is how other humans will perceive her. In reality I don't think a woman with confidence might be able to garner tons of respect from 1950's people for example if she went back to that time. Thankfully the show has had a tendency to ignore some of the worst aspects of humans when it comes to past times and usually you get people in the pass who are more enlightened than what you most likely would see if you really went to that time. Except for one asshole who ends up being a bad guy. That means the humans she meets should still be able to see beyond her gender.

Sure. I don't disagree. Of course, she will notice the difference. She should. Or maybe she won't and someone else will.

But, a boob joke, a vagina joke, a silly joke that only a boy would come up with? No.

If we lived in an equitable society, where all things were equal and women weren't judged on their bodies and looks, then I might have a different opinion.
Obviously the Doctor is going to make references to the changes in her. We heard endless what I guess would be 'ageist' jokes about the present Doctor. There is nothing equitable about that. He was judged on his appeal.

Do you ever wonder where Sara-Jane got her Sonic Lipstick from, or what happened to it after she passed?

If their is a connection, either 13 finds the sonic probe in Sarah-Jane's estate sale, or at the end of the 13ths run, 2007ish she stuffs her probe in the letter box for 13 Bannerman Road.

If there is actually lipstick, a shard of soft wax crayon, in her probe, how is it not pulverized or spat out like a bullet from it's housing...

NEVER-ENDING LIPSTICK!!!!!

By either folding time, or a simple replicator at the base of the housing, that would not be impossible.

Rani and Clive would have fought to see who inherited the probe, and arguments would have followed: "I'm a girl, it's mine! What'd you even use Lipstick for Clive!?" and "It's 2012! You can't force your heteronormative agenda on me Rani!" and so on.

What does this even mean?

Have you seen the Sarah Jane Adventures?

Sarah Jane has a sonic device that looks like a stick of lipstick.

Old Amy got pissy when there were two of her, "It's not a screw driver, It's a probe!" So that's what a sonic screwdriver is really called officially when you're not being a romantic twit.

I googled "what is lipstick"

Wax and oil, similar to a crayon.

A "housing" is a construction term for the female (coincidence, please don't bite) half of a joint.

The housing joint is a useful structural joint, particularly in cabinets and shelving units. It's sometimes also called a dado joint, and is effectively a trench that's cut across the grain of the timber, into which the end of another component is inserted.

The cuppy holdy bit of the metal/plastic handle end of the lipstick case, that holds the painty bit, a waxy emollient is screwed into the housing, gripping on to the lipstickcase, which is a sonic probe in this case.

There's a crayon for colouring in lips, attached half heartedly to a serious piece of alien technology that can open bank vaults.

I was not trying to make a double entendre, so if you saw dirtiness, that's from inside you.

Congratulations.

My bad then. :weep:

BTW no need to get so grumpy.

What I still want to see:

Int: Tardis. The Doctor stands up, still wobbly after the regeneration. She looks in a mirror and is horrified.
"No, no, NO! I don't believe it." Stomps around the console room for a minute then sighs. "Still not ginger."
I think this is probably the best solution.

I didn't say I think it would be. However mild innuendo humour or body humour is not new to the modern incarnation of Who in any way...and definitely not a new thing in comedy performed by male or female leads in the UK. As to its sexism, well, I guess that all depends on the joke.

I like this is as well. It still serves the main point of doing the acknowledgment through a joke. You could even sort of recreate Matt Smith's bit about him touching his hair and saying "I am a girl" during his regeneration. Only instead of making her reaction less as a shock but more of "This is new and neat" reaction.

Why is anyone debating Jayson? Does his reputation not precede him?

What reputation? Everyone has different views on comedy. I see the joke, whatever joke they make not even being the focus of what she is talking about. Just a throwaway moment as she goes off on one of on some tangent about some more pressing concern or bigger curiosity she wants to find out. Granted I am also still thinking the Doctor will still be written like David Tennant or Matt Smith. As someone kind of new to "Doctor Who" and became a fan in 2005 they sort of define my perspective on the character.

A companion's reaction would be good.

Doctor: "Why are you staring at me like that?.....wait....oh no, oh my god. I'm....*Gulps*...I'm finally a ginger, aren't I?"

I think it would depend on who is doing the staring. I kind of like the idea that when we see the Regeneration the first Doctor who is going to be in the Christmas Special will be able to see it. Has any other Doctor in the past been able to watch a Regeneration of a future or past version of him/herself? Have him do the staring and I think it would be a very funny scene.

There's a whole Time Lord thing called a Watcher, which is basically a future incarnation watching or pushing itself into being, a telepathic projection. Happened to the Hermit and the Doctor himself between four and five. They have hinted around it happening this time too, in the trailers recently.

I amused around the ginger thing....has fandom forgotten where it comes from?
It's because a future incarnation, possibly from another universe, possibly not...and possibly known as Muldwych...was ginger, and was Merlin, putting the events of Battlefield in motion before becoming trapped. Sort of a timely-Wimey trenzalore situation, way back when. Written by Ben Aaronovitch, but we know he's ginger because of the novelisation by Marc Platt (Ben couldn't finish the novel himself, for some reason.) which opens with the future red-headed doctor. It then ties further into novel-lore later, where the first Gallifreyan time-travellers included ginger 'heroes' who were often seers through their relationship to a figure called the Pythia, which in turn gives rise to the sisterhood of Karn (and referenced since the late RTD era) etc etc....
Hence the ginger joke. (As well as others.)
It was a much more interesting spin on gallifrey with a matriarchy of 'magic' followed by the patriarchy of 'reason' which stifled people like the Doctor. Something that was very very interesting, but doesn't fit much in now. The Pythia cursing Gallifrey to be childless after Rassilon basically stops magic existing in the universe with his 'male' logic, and his hunting of vampires etc, was great.

Billie Piper believes Rose would still love The Doctor as a woman. She also thinks the next Doctor will be a cat.

“I think it’ll bring something totally different,” she said. “And I think that in whatever capacity, if they’re going to save the world and travel through time, they’re gonna have to have a strong allegiance. I think this is just the beginning of something really exciting.

“And it’s not going to be traditional, it’s going to be more modern, and progressive, but it’ll always have the same – it’ll always be about needing each other, regardless of whether the Doctor is a girl, or a guy, or a cat. That’s next. The next Doctor is a cat.

“So, you know, I think it’s always going to be a beautiful, unique [thing] in whatever shape or size. I’m desperate to read those scripts – oh my god.”
