Question:

You'd assume based on the dialogue that Shaw was still alive when she and David arrived at the planet. Did Shaw know that David was going bomb them with the bioweapon?

I still am.

Fingers crossed for Ridley getting his marching orders and Alien 5 getting a shot...

Nah, Ridley might be crazy...but Blomkamp is a total one-note hack and the Alien 5 idea had "Alien Vs. Predator Requiem" level of bad written all over it.

I was surprised the engineers didn't have a defense against their own technology.

I've seen speculation around the net that the settlement that gets bombed are an off-shoot of the Engineers...they don't look the same as the creature in Prometheus.

Perhaps the first stop on the way to finding the homeworld?

Also- you see the Engineer in the beginning of PRO swallowing the substance and dying in much the same manner as these guys do...so perhaps there is no defense.

It's that "they're smarter" kind of thing for me.

"Sir, we've detected a ship coming in, with a human, and one of their robots. Looks like they are loaded to bear with bioweapons, with an intent to use."

"Copy. Proceed to vanish them. We'll have none of this nonsense."

One of the things I thought was weird was that the Engineers (or whatever) on the planet seemed to have no technology of their own. The city is devoid of anything that looks like technology by the time the Covenent crew gets there.

We'll, good news. Ridley says making Covenant kept him from involvement in Blade Runner II, which worked out just fine, and he now says he probably won't do any more Alien movies. That's a 'Win/Win' !

I suppose it's too late for Blomkamp's Alien 5 script, which Cameron has read and loved and Scott says never existed...

I finally saw Covenant this weekend.
It had some interesting scenes and was well produced, but I did not care for the story much at all.
personally I think it could have been a great movie if David had remained just a head and Dr. Shaw survived along with the Engineers at that outpost.
