A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

For many fans, one of the best parts of Star Trek: Beyond was the interaction between McCoy and Spock, which was reminiscent...

Karl Urban is a wonderful actor who does a wonderful McCoy, a McCoy that will live on in its own way until time passes Star Trek by (i.e., when technological advance makes it seem as dated as Captain Proton-like serials), and I am very glad he came back.

I'd be delighted for Paramount to make another, but am not sure they have the talent, skill, or desire to do anything but make it a paen to the worldview of those who live in Hollywood and think they understand everything, but who in fact would be washed out fairly early on at Starfleet.

I'd like more of a "Master and Commander" Trek for the next one.

Karl Urban is the best casting on the NuTrek films, would've been a disaster if they'd lost him!

Indeed. Quinto's pretty good too, but Urban's the standout. The rest fall somewhere in the 'O.K. / horrible' range.

Pine has been pretty good I think also. Urban is fantastic though.

I think he's just about worked his way up to O.K...

To Pine's defense the scripts he had to work with made Kirk James T. Punk at times. He was very much Kirk in Beyond in the character's maturity save for the too long hair in the movie lol

Better writting for the character in STB IMO

The entire main cast have been great in all 3 movies but Urban is probably my favourite.

    Really ?

I like Pegg but he's a horrible Scotty. Cho and Yelchin utterly failed to impress, Saldana was O.K. and Pine has improved somewhat. Quinto's good and Urban outstanding...

Frankly, hes cute and funny but I find he's overrated by old fans because he makes an impersonation of DeForest, which makes him perfect to people who can't accept this is another trek and another reality. His costars add new things like jj asked them to do, he makes no effort and he seems to think his character has no purpose outside of being a nod to the original trio. Lame.

Besides, he just got, in the first movies, the same amount of screentime DeForest got in the old thing and the same attention from promotional stuff.
The writers included him in the "action" such as the scene on nibiru, and then when he helps Carol and almost loses a hand in their experiment, but then he's appropriately kept in sickbay for the rest of the movie because he's a doctor not action hero, and it's already forced sometimes that he spends more time on the bridge with Kirk than doing his job. There is little jj&Co could do to give him more without making the character unprofessional and out of place. Some scenes in Beyond surely were "trying too hard" indeed so they shouldn't become a rule.

If he seriously expected to be the protagonist with Kirk and Spock then reading some comments online must have inflated his ego and delusion because not even DeForest was at their level.

The reboot is not tos and there was no old trio because it wasn't needed and it doesn't even make sense here.
Of course his dynamic with Spock comes across as one sided because this Spock isn't on denial about his human side and he isn't "annoying" with Mccoy, but I don't think Quinto should suddenly make an impersonation of Nimoy too (and go against the integrity of his character that Nimoy himself helped him shape) just to give Mccoy more screentime.
Im sick of this myopic nostalgic obession for the old trio stuff and one dimensional "roles". JJ didn't fail the old trio, he simply wanted a different dynamic because we are in a time where you are finally allowed to do more than just bromance, and it worked.
Karl's "favorite movie", on the other hand, that is the one placating nostalgia fans the most, is the least successful of the trilogy and the one that put the reboot's future in jeopardy. Nuff said.

Nolstaga fans has been the people that has kept trek alive.

Urban is the stand out, the majority does not lie here. he is the best of the bunch and people love him for that.

spock and bones dynamic is a huge part of tos trek. and yeah while this is a reboot it is a rebbot of tos. so the heavy elements of tos must remain. its weird that you say you are sick of it. please I have to ask, have you watched the 6 movies or the 79 episodes of tos. how is it all nostalgia?trek is trek.

the rebooted future of this trek was already in jeopardy because of how kind of awful into darkness was.

Beyond was a superior movie in writing and truer to star trek. And I don't think the future of this trek is in jeopardy because of karl urban...gosh, it makes zero sense to me considering he is the best character according to everyone and we will all love to see more of him. he should get a personal story.

What's weird is that, when @Malaika posts to express an opinion on something, very often you post soon after to call her statement weird, with an insinuation that her knowledge of ______ must somehow be deficient. It's more than slightly stalkerish in its consistency, and it verges on trolling almost every time you do it. I'm going to suggest you stop doing that, beginning right now.

Good thing no one said that then.
It's comforting that straw man arguments and reading comprehension issues are still your signature though

Me being an old fan (of the kind who doesn't say stupid things like "vulcans mate only once every 7 years" and I never romanticize the past) probably is reason no. 1 why I don't need the reboot, and specifically one that is in another reality, to be carbon copy of something I can watch on my dvds already, anytime I want to. It never was what JJ wanted to do (and was asked to do), anyway, so the only unreasonable people are the ones who keep pretending this is tos since 8 years, and now use nostalgia as an excuse to make trek stuck in the past and go backwards.

I may not like everything about Into darkness but it is one of the most successful movies of the whole trek franchise and the reason why you got beyond. Had beyond been at least as successful as stid was, our dear Urban here wouldn't even need to doubt the possibility of another movie.

The fact that the most "nostalgia" movie of the 3, that is liked by reboot haters the most, is the least successful of the trilogy only adds to the irony here.
