The tweets read like David is still getting show scripts which seems to imply that he has another novel in the works possibly...

I don't know about that, it could just be so he was up to date on any new backstory he needed to incorporate into the book.
This does sound cool. So would this be the closest collaboration between a novel writer and the current show's writers? Not counting books written by show writers like Jeri Taylor.

Synchronising the novels with the show does not mean the same thing as being canon.

Would he still be writing the book this late?

At the panel, he stated he turned in the novel months ago in March.

Help me out here: Is this the first Star Trek novel cover to feature the stereotypical ol' "show me your butt and your face" female superhero pose?

    Or am I off base?

There's a ship by that name in the IDW alt reality comics, too - Gaila's posting, according to "Reunion".

Here's the blurb that released at STLV:
Aboard the Starship Shenzhou, Lieutenant Michael Burnham, a human woman raised and educated among Vulcans, is promoted to acting first officer. But if she wants to keep the job, she must prove to Captain Philippa Georgiou that she deserves to have it.
She gets her chance when the Shenzhou must protect a Federation colony that is under attack by an ancient alien vessel that has surfaced from the deepest fathoms of the planet’s dark, uncharted sea.

As the menace from this mysterious vessel grows stronger, Starfleet declares the colony expendable in the name of halting the threat. To save thousands of innocent lives, Burnham must infiltrate the alien ship. But to do so she needs to face the truth of her troubled past, and seek the aid of a man she has tried to avoid her entire life—until now.

I'm wondering if that could be Spock. If she's avoided him, that could help explain why he never mentioned her. (Although he never mentioned T'Pau, Sarek, Amanda, or Sybok until he had to.)

I'm pretty sure David did mention that the Enteprise appears in it at some point, so probably a logical conclusion.

Her too. But T'Pau also counts because Spock never mentioned that his family was so close to this legendary historical figure that she'd officiate his wedding.

Didn't the producers specifically mention in some interview that they paid attention to the fact that Spock never mentioned any kind of sister?
