That picture makes me feel I'm being watched.
And Star Trek isn't the only series that views it that way. Other movie/TV series have tie-in novels, but are not viewed as part of the actual canon.
As for all that effort into creating a novel that isn't treated as part of the universe, you'll have to go quite a ways back to the 1960's or so for that. Lots of TV shows had tie-in novels that were not treated as part of the TV continuity.
I read those as a teenager, too. I especially liked the one about the invisible dirigible. I imagine they would seem rather juvenile if I read one today, but I enjoyed them a lot when I was young.I read most of the Man From Uncle books in high school in the 60s. I remember really enjoying them, better than the show actually.
I went through a Discovery exhibit today at STLV and I don't care if they are ruining the Klingons (they're not). I saw some amazing creativity in the armor and uniforms. Right now they've really sold me on the look of the show.
Well, that was a bit less than a game-changer.
Riveting news. This is for when they open the door to submissions again so people know how to structure their story pitch.
Maybe they found a way around it. They're gonna need to go outside for new blood. People who are already in the industry don't exactly jump at the chance to work on scifi. Also knowledge of Trek is so important given the bogged down continuity that they are still trying to respect to some degree. Making a writer out of a Trek geek is probably easier than making an established writer into a Trek geek. Just speculation though.I thought that was no longer permitted due to legal reasons (like you had to be part of a guild.)
