Discovery at STLV. The massive info dump

That picture makes me feel I'm being watched.

And Star Trek isn't the only series that views it that way. Other movie/TV series have tie-in novels, but are not viewed as part of the actual canon.

As for all that effort into creating a novel that isn't treated as part of the universe, you'll have to go quite a ways back to the 1960's or so for that. Lots of TV shows had tie-in novels that were not treated as part of the TV continuity.

I read most of the Man From Uncle books in high school in the 60s. I remember really enjoying them, better than the show actually.

I read those as a teenager, too. I especially liked the one about the invisible dirigible. I imagine they would seem rather juvenile if I read one today, but I enjoyed them a lot when I was young.

Well today is the day we are supposed to get this announcement. Will be interesting to hear what it is or if it happpebs.

Well, that was a bit less than a game-changer.

Yeah it might be a game changer for some trek fans but I'm not sure a majority of fans are affected by this.

A game changer announcement to me means something like moving up the premiere date, actually showing the theme sequence (something I still wish was done for us on Wednesday) or maybe a trailer showing Discovery for about 98% of it.

Riveting news. This is for when they open the door to submissions again so people know how to structure their story pitch.

I thought that was no longer permitted due to legal reasons (like you had to be part of a guild.)
Maybe they found a way around it. They're gonna need to go outside for new blood. People who are already in the industry don't exactly jump at the chance to work on scifi. Also knowledge of Trek is so important given the bogged down continuity that they are still trying to respect to some degree. Making a writer out of a Trek geek is probably easier than making an established writer into a Trek geek. Just speculation though.

Why would they accept submissions on a serialized show?
