News New EW Issue Details Bryan Fuller’s DISCOVERY Departure

There won't be a Meyer Star Trek on the CW, this rumor is completely unbelievable. The CW budgets aren't high enough to doma proper Star Trek show and why would CBS let Nick Meyer run a Star Trek show in the first place? He has no experience as a showrunner.

I figure Netflix might be paying for it much like they are "Discovery." Also I think Trek show could be done on the budget of some of their superhero shows. Meyer might not have experience as a showrunner but he does have a history with Trek and the movie business going way back. I think he is more than qualified. That is if they want to do it. PLus we already saw "Supergirl" make this switch so CBS has already been down this path before.

Nothing new in the article at all. We all knew there were a few disagreements, but also that CBS let him go because he couldn't complete his commitment in a timely manner..which is what I've said all along.

I like Fuller, and I don't think he's burned any bridges, so he may return to the show he created at some point, but not as a show runner.

Originally we were going to get an anthology series, just like the rumours...

'Fuller sat with CBS executives to deliver his pitch. It wasn’t just for a ‘Trek’ series but for multiple serialized anthology shows that would begin with the ‘Discovery’ prequel, journey through the eras of Captain James T. Kirk and Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and then go beyond to a time in ‘Trek’ that’s never been seen before.

“The original pitch was to do for science fiction what ‘American Horror Story’ had done for horror,” Fuller says. “It would platform a universe of ‘Trek’ shows.”

CBS countered with the plan of creating a single serialized show and then seeing how it performed. It was a fair compromise, yet demonstrated the first conflict of vision between a powerful company and an inventive writer that would eventually lead to a dramatic falling-out.'

Now this would be interesting! Hopefully we'll be getting more TV shows set during different times...

I don't know where they got some of the "facts" that they stated in their video because I've never heard them before. And I keep pretty up to date on all discovery news. Are they supposed to have some type of insider informant that they got this info from? To me it just seemed like they were pandering to angry trek fans because of the information they listed all of it was negative and that cbs know it's gonna tank. One question I have is then why did they lengthen it to 15 episodes?

Geez, just saw that Midnight's Edge video and read the talkback.... talk about depressing........... I still have high hopes for Discovery on a creative level, but I am not so sure anymore commercially..........can anyone say something to raise my spirit?
The source for the video is a Facebook user currently called Doug Fitz, a man who genuinely believes this entire board is made up of paid Bad Robot plants and a few years ago insisted CBS were secretly producing Enterprise Season Five for launch on Jan 1, 2015. He'd "seen the concept art" which we eventually realised meant he'd seen Doug Drexler's NX-01.5 refit, which was all over the internet for that year's Ships of the Line calender.

Feeling better?

Is that the dude who pretended to be a woman on facebook for years, working on Enterprise coming back to TV?
(the pseudonym was Jen DeSalle or something)

Fear not, those internet videos are bunk.

You have any proof of this because the videos seem pretty accurate. Granted except for John Campnea, I haven't heard any other collaboration.

Doubtful.
Frankly, I'm kind of "Khan-ed" out right now. Jesus, Star Trek wasn't just about Khan, for crying out loud. To be honest, I like TUC better than TWOK, and in watching it now, I think the legend of the movie is overshadowing the movie itself.

(EDIT to add: I apologize for saying Jesus. That doesn't fit in with Gene's Vision of a 23rd Century where there is no religion)

I found The Wrath of Kahn to be campy back then, I still do!
Groaned when I heard that Into Darkness would bring back that hamfisted personage!
Fortunally it was Benedict C who took the role....not the best movie, but it made it bearable!

Trek movies is a strange beast at best!

You know what, I agree. I personally thought it was okay to bring him back in STID, because it was a different take on that story. But I'm good on the Khan thing. Even when people reference "KHAAAN!" now, it doesn't get a reaction from me. Sometimes it's like the only Star Trek thing that exists for some people is TWOK, and I could easily name 10 episodes and movies that are more important or interesting than that one movie.

Still though, I'll watch whatever it is Meyer is doing here. I just won't be super eager about it like I am with DSC or a potential ST4.

I would watch out of curiosity, but then we'd have to weather the storms of fans enraged about casting, etc.

But even so, I would think Meyer would be a little put out if he was sent off from DSC to work on more Khan junk. He's a great writer and director, and should be recognized for more than just Khan.

Would have been like asking Quinto to put on Vulcan ears and play one of his American Horror Story characters.

It's a fanfiction written around a few known facts (i.e. Bryan Fuller was asked to step down) designed to make the production look as bad as possible. The only verification you'll ever find is from people online like Fitz and Leslie Owens, who'll cite imaginary inside sources they won't reveal. They've been at it for years.

Doug Fitz is a delusional putz; he and a couple of other loonies on Facebook like Fred Archer and milowen are responsible for most of the paranoid/conspiratorial "behind-the-scenes intrigue" crap that keeps the clickbait sites and trekkie forums going nuts.

I was over-Khaned about ten years ago, when he kept getting voted as the top villain. I'm sitting there, watching First Contact and Nemesis, and going "Seriously? This is the only story we get?"

I think I hit a point of where Khan simply was oversold and it lacked any punch any more. Honestly, despite BC being Khan in ST ID, I still think he was more interesting than all of the TNG villains. He had his own air of creepiness and superiority that worked so well against Kirk's inexperience and recklessness.

I'll watch whatever Meyer is doing with Trek. I think he approaches it from a much different angle, and I may disagree with him, but it will at least be interesting.

The lack of sources clearly indicates a conspiracy to silence them.

Just to touch on those rumours of Meyer developing a Khan show... maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but there's not a chance in hell any new show ends up on The CW. They treated ENT like shit, for one (although their programming is much more sci-fi friendly now), and secondly, any new Trek is going on All Access. CBSAA needs to hold onto Trek subscribers when Discovery is off air, so don't be surprised to see them full the gaps with other spin offs and mini-series'. There's no chance Trek goes anywhere other than All Access.
