I saw a post on my Facebook feed that there are no Trek books scheduled yet for 2018. Usually by this time of year, around Shore Leave, and especially after, we usually have a pretty good idea about what lies ahead for the next year, including if there are any "big" or "event" releases on the horizon. This worries me a bit as I've always enjoyed the written parts of the Trek universe the most. Does anyone have any more information on this? Any input from any of the authors who post here...David Mack...Greg Cox...Chris Bennett...anyone?

I'd imagine there would be another Discovery novel - otherwise the hour-long panel at ST:LV about the Discovery tie-ins is going to be very limited.

Even if we end up getting novels announced for February forward at some point, theres no arguing that something weird hasn't been going on thats lead to us not knowing anything about the novel coming out six months from now.

I guess there is a chance Schlesinger will talk about upcoming non-Discovery novels on this STLV panel:

I'm wondering about the "radio silence" also, and have seen on at least one other online place Trek novel fans asking/ discussing/ or expressing concern about the lack of new novels news for 2018 (besides the Voyager book) too.

I imagine it's tied in to things with Discovery, both the usual kinks of tie-ins with a new show premiere and the constant rescheduling throwing things off - there may have been plans knocked off kilter with the way that Discovery (which, based on the original plans with the early 2017 launch, would have likely have finished its first season by now) has been shuffled around.

Like, if the original plans had managed to go through, there might have been an intent to, since there were none in 2017, likely to prevent stepping on Discovery's toes, given that they're close in timeframe, have one or two TOS books in early 2018, with the expectation that there'd be time to edit or adjust to any new information from Discovery, and, with the constant delays, now any books that might have been discussed are getting considered again because of concerns of what might happen.

2017's schedule suffered from the shuffling of Discovery's premiere, it's not surprising that 2018's would as well.

When this came up recently in another thread I think I remember one of the authors saying that Pocket's contract was up for renegotiation, so if negotiations took a while that could also explain why we haven't heard about new books yet. I can imagine the existence of the Kelvin movies and Discovery have to make things a bit more complicated than in the past.

Would also imagine that it's to do with Discovery (and that some of the Treklit-authors work on that, combined with it being delayed) - and of course, that the relaunch timeline has rapidly approached 2387, and therefore a contractual roadblock.

IMO, at this point the lack of news about any 2018 novels could suggest there won't be a novel released at the end of January or February. And I'm not exactly optimistic about March. Strictly IMO based on nothing more than speculation based on perceived patterns and precedents from prior years. In other words, don't treat this post as any kind of evidence.

Won't we be getting the English translations of Parts 2 & 3 of the Prometheus in 2018? Or is the November 2017 "Fire With Fire" a giant omnibus that will have all 3 translated books in the one book?

There will be three books (at least KRAD talked about editing all three books seperately on his blog), we just don't know the dates for two and three yet.

I would find it hard to believe that negotiations for 2018 aren't done by now. I'll admit, I have no clue as to how these things work, but with all the work that needs to be done in both writing, editing and planning a whole year of novels, you'd think both Pockets and CBS would have this sorted by now.

If we have to speculate, then the easiest explanation is likely (but not guaranteed) the correct one.

So, because DSC is in development, Pocket Books and or CBS hold off with book announcements to a) either prevent contradiction (like @DGCatAniSiri says, 2) or to streamline marketing by making announcements with fanfare (as implied by @Defcon's blurb).

That assumes that early 2018 novels are still on the table.

Just remember, they're being released by Titan, not Pocket, so I don't think they'd be included in Pocket Books 2018 schedule.

The OP asked about Trek Books in 2018 and didn't specify Pocket Books, though.

Oh, my mistake, I thought we were specifically talking about the Pocket Books schedule for 2018.
