The New USS Discovery....

I dunno still looks odd and ugly. It just seems to lack grace, I really hate the nacelles still.

So much for the Constitution-class being Starfleet's biggest and best in this era; From the windows alone, that thing's at least as big as the Enterprise-E. I'm going with it being the Prime Universe equivalent of the Vengeance - gotta be Section 31.

The Einstein class (USS Kelvin) was already considerably larger in 2233, the Constitution class is pretty skinny after seeing the workhorse fleet of that era.

Forgive me for posting variations of the same thing, but they keep getting uploaded in various pieces, or finally as the full high res poster.

Turns out they didn't change the design from the production art very much.:techman:

Interesting that the windows on the leading edge of the saucer are recessed, but then they seem to become flush as they go around the perimeter. Quirk of the art maybe?

Even higher res.

Just comparing the new poster design with the one from the teaser a month ago.

I much more prefer the forward pointing nacelles. They make the whole ship look more balanced.
The cut-outs seem too be part of both design. Which is a shame. It's a unigue design element - that IMO would be a much better fit or a 24th century ship.

Hope the final design will still look a bit more elegant. We're getting closer, people!

Where was it said in canon that the Connie was the biggest ship of the era?

The number of windows makes it much bigger and with more crew than I was expecting. The inner/outer rings makes me think of a rotating structure or that they can separate parts of it to make another ship. Hmm. The delta wings makes me think of a collaboration or stolen tech from the klingons... I like it. Intrigued.

I've just reviewed Memory Alpha and you'll be pleasantly surprised that a Constitution class is nowhere billed as the largest starship class, nor was its actual size ever stated on screen.

The Planet of the Titans Enterprise which the Discovery is based on was around the same size of the Excelsior in STIII

Whoa, this looks AWESOME! I'm now completely sold on the design of the ship. And I love the new direction of these posters with the stylized color scheme. Even the logo font doesn't look all that bad when they use it like that.

Great details on the Discovery. This ship looks fast and hot! Love that they went for the sleeker, longer nacelles that are attached more interestingly to the pylons. The only things that still kind of irks me is that the nacelles aren't swept up even a little bit, but I can live with that.

I want this on my wall as a big ass poster, now!

EDIT: Oh, and there does seem to be another gap between the inner ring and the bridge sphere. Interesting.

Maybe it can seperate into three ships...?

ETA: Prometheus, anyone?

Even though it's very large, at least the scale is appropriate. It doesn't have a crazy huge deflector dish, or docking ports for 20ft tall people(like another ship we know of)

This must be the retro poster.

EC Henry comes out with another great video: Why saucer cutouts?:
