The New USS Discovery....

To each his own, something about that secondary Hull and neck just drives me nuts. I just can not get over it, which is sad as I like most the ships of the reboot
I recognize that it is purely subjective, but for me the ENT-D looks completely off balanced. Though, I'll be fair and say most of the ships post Excelsior bother me to one degree or another.

I agree the galaxy is off balanced. Its something about the placement of the neck and how the deflector juts out that just gives me this "Its fraking wrong!" vibe I can not get past.

The nacelles bug me more than the deflector, but once its in motion, it's fine ;)

Plus, I love the design color aesthetic. @MadMan1701A has taken a number of ships and done the Kelvin universe design and they come out really good.

Do not think I have seen them. The issue is, the Kelvin connie is not all that bad, its just organized wrong. I still like the Kelvin design itself about best of all of them. Something about that I just like.

Not seeing the issue with the neck and deflector, looks more like a hybrid of the original NCC-1701 from 1964 and 1978.

Probably not. The chances of a new ST4 with Pine and Quinto are pretty slim at this point...

Actually, yes. Beyond came out in 2016. Now we have 2017, and nothing has happened since then. If they target a 2019 release, production needs to start NOW.
And they would have needed a script ready and re-hired the rest of the cast a while ago. They can't afford to wait 4 years inbetween movies again. This series will be more than 10 years old at that point, have outlived two Spider-Man reboots, and been only mildly successful compared to competing blockbusters.

Basically, if there isn't a surprise announcement for ST4 at current Comic Con, you can safely assume the Kelvin-timeline movie series has run it's course.

Hey, we got three movies. That's something.

Since Paramount has not shown a willingness to do it in less than 4 years, I'm not going to rule it out. Supposedly Pine and Quinto are already signed, or at least that was the rumor.

As much as I like the Kelvin universe, I think its pretty well established that Paramount's more slow and steady wins the race.

True dat. Impossible it is not.
Pine and Quinto were signed up for a potential fourth film before the release of Beyond. After the more disappointing box office run of it nothing more has been done. I guess this is a point where the traditional 'trilogy' thinking of big studios works against a 4th film. But we'll see...

Might be ironic that wether we get a 4th Kelvin movie might depend upon how happy Paramount is with it's other franchises, e.g. the Transformers Bumblebee spin-off...

I do wonder how much of it depends upon DSC's success too.

No, actually. There were 4 years between Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. And three years between STiD and Beyond. And a year is enough time to make the movie. Principal photography for Beyond started on June 25th 2015, with the movie released on July 7th 2016. Just over a year. Start pre-preduction (sets, costumes) a month or two before that. So that means if they start building sets in february of 2018, they could still release movie july 2019. It's only mid 2017 now. There's a good chance they're working on stories right now. Some of the actors ARE already hired. Pine and Quinto are. It's still very realistic that a movie could be released July 2019.

You haven't actually paid any attention to the production schedules of the last three Star Trek movies.

Some people are still speculating we won't see the full onscreen USS DIscovery till the show comes out. I don't think it benefits them to do that, especially since it was a year ago on almost the same day they revealed the concept ship, and they may want to alleviate some of the more unreasonable fan's worries.

Set cynicism/skepticism levels to maximum.

I did. Paramount was supremely unhappy with the four years bettwen ST09 and Into Darkness, and cites this as a major reason for the dissapointing (domestic) box office. When Orci's script for ST3 fell through, they extremely rushed the production of Beyond, to get it into cinemas sooner than that, aka in 3 years.

The more time passes, the more unlikely it gets done. I guess Paramount will be really hesitant to wait for another 4 years. Waiting how DIS succeeds simply may not be an option. It might convince the producers to try another Trek movie. But by then it will be with a new crew before and behind the camera.

Two years is the bare minimum it takes for a major blockbuster from conception to realisation. That includes a lot of pre-production (script, actors, desgning, schedules,...). Starting one year before release with principal shooting was extremely rushed. And only out of necessity to avoid a later release date. If you listen to the commentary, you will learn that it was a major obstacle - cutting the movie and doing vfx at that pace. And is probably one of the major reason the movie was sooo expensive (more than a major Marvel movie, but with only a fraction of the box office returns of those). And why a lot of the effects looked cheap/unfinished. Because they were rushed.

If they want to release ST4 in 2019, they must begin with pre-production NOW. In which case we would have had an official press release/confimation they are moving ahead. And if they are willing to wait another 4 years between movies, they mus t be extremely confident in the material. Which I don't really see, diminishing returns and radio silence included...

I speculate we're going to see the final design of the Discovery rather sooner than later. Probably with the next big trailer. That will be when the marketing will start full throttle. But that might be only a month or two before release.

Agreed - they revealed the NX-01 relatively early, for better or worse, prior to Ent's premiere. Since we already sort-of know what Discovery looks like, and we already know it's based on an old McQuarrie Phase II design, it won't be as much of a shock when we see the final product.

I would personally love to see more of the Shenzhou. That is one cool-looking ship.

Here she is folks.
