The New USS Discovery....

USS_Enterprise_NCC-1701-_A_alternate_reality.png

Thanks. I do not like that ship. Something is off with the neck and second hull. The proportions do not work for me at all.

I've seen shots of that ship from angles that made it look great and angles that make it look equally terrible. But I don't think that's the picture of it in the actual movie. I think in Beyond it looks much better.

I mostly agree, but I suspect they'll make some changes to it before we see it again and it'll (hopefully) look a lot better.

That's a picture of it from the end of the film.

I like the nacelles and the strut placement better than the previous version. The other changes make sense in context with how the previous ship was lost.

Probably not. The chances of a new ST4 with Pine and Quinto are pretty slim at this point...

I think that, too.

Although somewhat ironically, I think the Abrams films set the stage (or at least resulted in an environment) where a TOS remake film set in the TOS universe might be palatable to fans -- casual fans and otherwise. I''m talking about a film with Kirk, Spock, et al that takes place in the prime timeline and doesn't bother with the (IMO) unnecessary silliness of the Nero/Kelvin incident.

Casual film fans are accustomed to multi reboots by now (such as the Spider-Man films), and will not be confused about how a new ST film connects to (or, more specifically, would not connect to) the Abrams films. And fans would not be confused, because it would have been discussed to death on ST forums.

I'm not saying we'll get a TOS remake film soon, but I wouldn't be shocked if it happened in the next 5 to 10 years.

^ Multiple reboots within living memory means the product line is struggling and fails repeatedly to become commercially viable for long-running series. E.g. Hulk, Superman, Spider-Man (why isn't it Spiderman, btw?), Fan4. Counter-example: Star Wars - no reboot.

I think it's more of the harsh angles on the ship than proportion issues that make it look weird from other angles. For me at least. But I think they also softened some of the angles of the ship in the movie.

I know I was thinking "I'm in space and when I look out the window...I see into a conference room. Well, no hot Bolian yoga for me!" Maybe I can requisition curtains...."

It's my quarters, I'll be doing my yoga and if they have work to do they can keep their eyes to themselves!

So, do you guys think we might finally get a glimpse of the finished version of the ship next week at SDCC? Would be nice to finally see something and be sure it's what we are actually getting in the show.

Or do they "hold out" STLV?

I hope we see something soon. IIRC, we got a full-on top view of the NX-01 fairly early on before Akira...er...Enterprise aired.
