Probably wise given that's the only way to truly judge a production, rather than the snippets released, out of context of the overall story.
Yeah thats very true. I just hope that most of the rumour mill is overblown. I was never this nervous and anti over TNG coming out (and I grew up on TOS & TAS). And I was sooo positive over ENT at first. I guess I have seen so much recent ST that imho has been too derivative.
I just want it to be good.

I imagined that the Hur'q, the Fek'Ihri, and the gods the Klingons killed were one and the same, or at least connected somehow.
Somewhere way back in this thread, or maybe in a different thread, I was wondering if the Hur'q could also be the Klingon gods who the Klingons slew millenia ago. Somebody raised some good points why that couldn't be the case. Mainly that they are dealt with in different terms; the Hur'q invasion is treated as a tangible historic event, while the Klingon gods are treated as vague and mythic.

To be fair, in 1987 we had Starlog magazine. That's about it.

If we had the internet in full swing then, there would've been just as much BS about TNG as there is about DSC now.

Why does all new star trek have to change things so much , i agree things can be updated with new styles but sill look the same, they could have been bold and went with the tos look of klingons would have saved on time in the make up chair lol

To be fair I can remember hearing (in Starlog etc I presume) quite a bit of complaining over TNG, back in the day, But I was 100% behind TNG then - only what followed gradually lost my interest. Same story with ENT.
This time I am a lot less naive and so choosing to wait and see when it finally comes out.

I have a feeling that it would not have been taken seriously, even if avoiding the make up chair ;)

Are you suggesting that Fu Manchu caricatures are outdated?

Although I think the good Doctor was originally bald in his first few movies. Maybe Trek's makeup people really are still taking pointers.

Sadly, they did. Someone posted a scan of a fanzine from the time complaining about the 'unnecessary changes', it could have been a copy-paste from TrekBBS. Just as a few years later, the idea of Trek without Kirk and Spock was ludicrous and would never, ever work.

What gets me is how the childhood-destroying changes become the new hallowed canon over time. The 'Klingons in name only' of the movie era have become exactly what the next generation of fans are defending as the original, accept-no-substitutes Klingon.

Funnily enough, I think the Discovery-klingons would be a reasonable well fit for klingons IF THEY HAD FU MANCHU/MONGOL-BEARDS.

Seriously. Give them hair & beards, and the would actually look a lot like klingons! That actually makes me hopefull. If DIS moves forward, and we meet other klingons with beards, they would be accepted much more, and these "early" klingons would be ret-conned as a "shaved" cult. I could live with that.

New Klingons of Discovery gives me a chance to look at Klingons through the ages.

Let us appreciate the Klingons through the ages.

Starting canonically with ENT

Compared to what has come before, the Discovery Klingons look like they were left in the oven too long and ended up overcooked.
