TV projects receiving lucrative tax credits from California’s incentive program. Although not all allocated, this latest round saw $51 million available for recurring series and $25 million for relocating series,
Limited to recurring and newly relocating series, the latest round of applications for the $76 million available in total ran May 22-29. Including the relocating Timeless, a total of 28 recurring series in various stages of production are currently in the program and eligible for tax incentives during this period, says the CFC – no one else gets anything until a formal pickup is given.
The next TV round begins November 6 and goes until November 13, with news of who got what due sometime around the second week of December.
‘This Is Us’ & ‘Timeless’ Among TV Projects Awarded California Tax CreditsHaving seen FX’s Legion and Fox’s Lucifer move from Vancouver and Showtime’s The Affair jump from New York in the last round of TV tax incentive awards in March, the California Film Commission continued its emphasis on snagging relocating series with Thursday’s announcement.
Did CBS even apply for relocating DSC to California for tax credits for season 2? Will they apply before the series finishes being broadcast in this Winter?
I'm sure studio deals have been made and actor contracts signed for multi-year exclusivity but Canadian-based actors are the ones that would really be affected. Trek is a studio show mostly and all exteriors have been painfully obvious in the previous series as Southern California. DSC already shot in Jordan for the premiere episode.
DSC is in production in Toronto at Pinewood Studios Toronto. I wonder how long of a contract they have? Also productions in Canada I believe have some sort of requirements to be broadcast in Canada on regional/nationwide channels for original productions so since Star Trek DSC will broadcast in Canada where Space and Z will carry the series in English and French respectively how would this be affected?
