Even though Episode 8 (The Last Jedi) and Episode 9 haven't come out yet, you can still speculate somewhat based on Episode 7: The Force Awakens... use the expanded universe sparingly.

Even though I am open to having the Prequel Trilogy done better, especially so that other, more serious fans can like it like I do... I am really attached to George Lucas and his founding ideas for Star Wars. Whenever I heard him explain the first six episodes... I am blown away by how smart he is. If they replaced Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen, and Ahmed Best that would be better received by the fans... I am okay with it.

Edit: Sorry I put spelled "unannounced" with two "n's" in the beginning.... :sigh:

Natalie Portman should have also been replaced. She came off as wooden and had no chemistry with Hayden Christensen.

I'll take The Force Awakens and the trailer for The Last Jedi over the prequels any day.

I enjoy the prequels, but The Force Awakens blows them out of the water. Even if TLJ and whatever EPIX ends up being call suck, TFA will still make the sequels better than the prequels.

I voted prequels because The Clone Wars was awesome. Sure, it's not really keeping to the spirit of the poll, but voting for a trilogy where only one movie is out so far seems a bit weird to me.

Yeah, how can you fairly judge an entire trilogy when nobody has even seen 2/3rds of it? This just smells like thinly disguised prequel bashing to me (and I'm by no means the PT's biggest fan.)

I prefer the prequels over TFA.

To be honest, you can't judge this trilogy thing with only 1 out of 3 movies of the sequel one released. Yet, of course, we know that nothing is going to be worse than the prequels...

I agree, you can't judge the prequels against one movie.
But I dislike TFA a lot so I vote the prequels

The Force Awakens didn't really do anything original, a lot of it came off as a retelling of A New Hope which, whilst not an entirely bad thing, isn't hugely imaginative. The sequel trilogy has a far better cast, with some real chemistry between them (compared to the prequel films) that we'll hopefully see more of in 8 and 9.

Even if the other two films are crap it'll still have an overall better quality than 1-3, though admittedly that's not really very hard.

How can you poll this when we're only 1/3 of the way into the sequel trilogy? Ask again in about 4 years.

I got to go with the prequels, even though I hated The Phantom Menace. While I agree that TFA had characters with more chemistry (particularly Rey, Finn, and Poe) than was in the prequels, the prequels were more original with their storytelling. And so far, and it's subject to change, the prequels had a more epic and relevant story to tell, even if we sort of knew the ending going in. I don't think the prequels matched Lucas's lofty ambitions but in light of TFA I appreciated the prequels more for trying to be different, instead of just rehashing what came before. And TFA just felt like a lesser version of the original trilogy instead of forging new ground. Perhaps Episode 8 will give us something deeper and more interesting to say about the Force, the Jedi, the Sith, etc, but until it comes out, I still put the prequels over it.

Had the prequels been more along the lines of the animated Clone Wars series then they would've been far more enjoyable.

I did find a trio of vids on YouTube about what if the prequel films had been good, and though they're only about 30 minutes in total they definitely tell a far more compelling story, which I'm starting to see as the actual Episodes 1-3

^Apples and oranges. These two medium and formats have vastly different parameters to the kinds of story you can tell.

Star Wars movies have about two hours to tell a complete story from beginning to end and logically fit into a trilogy structure who's narrative (theoretically) flows according to it's place in the larger saga. It also must serve the overarching themes and subtext, all the while providing a big enough spectacle to justify asking people to pay to go see it.

The TV show got to tell short snappy 20-30 minute stories in an semi-serialised anthology format. It collectively has a *lot* more time to explore the texture of the world and the kind of character depth a movie as described above can only really infer. A Star Wars saga movie can't spend 20 minutes with Yoda teaching a group of clones to embrace their individuality, or on a pulpy noir-esq crime thriller of intrigue and betrayal about a yellow spherical fem fatale with flamingo legs, elephant trunk and eye stalks and the convict Hutt that loved her.

If you want to see what a Clone Wars movie movie would look like, you don't have to look far because there already is on. It hits all the storytelling requirements of a movie: three act structure, action, spectacle, an interesting villain and a newly introduced hero/PoV character with a clearly defined arc that can give audience newcomers a way into this already established world.
To put it in perspective: I'm a huge fan of Ahsoka. She may be my favourite character in Star Wars ever (and I'm an OT fan from way back!) and yet I think it would be fair to say that her introduction in this movie went over about as well as Anakin's in TPM. Indeed, I heard a lot of the very same complaints; "bratty, annoying child character tagging along with the real heroes (which, ironically included Anakin) just to appeal to a demographic and sell toys."
The main reason (at least in part) why she and the Clone Wars incarnations of Anakin & Obi-wan are so popular, even over their live action equivalents is because the format of the show allowed the characters space and time to grow.
You just can't do that the same way in a movie, not even three movies.

There has been only one movie released for the Sequel Trilogy. How can anyone answer this question?

Also, since when does "STAR WARS' have to be "fun" in order to be enjoyable? I certainly don't think so. Is it always going to be the case of the public and media bitching and moaning about a pop culture movie that's light on humor and heavy on angst? As if there is only one kind of summer flick that is allowed to be made? Because I'm getting weary of these complaints.

I have some problems with "Clone Wars" Anakin. The characterization in the series doesn't quite jibe with the Anakin I saw at the beginning of "Revenge of the Sith". And I didn't need the "Clone Wars" to understand his character.

Because people have different points of view, and not everyone gets the same level of enjoyment out of films.

There are only four released 'saga' films. I don't know of this 'prequel trilogy' you speak of.

Can I suggest labeling Star Wars and it's first 2 sequels episodes V and VI the sequel trilogy and episode VII and its sequels the resequel trilogy.
