Female leads

Shocking, they put two women in the cast and died to have one of them as the main character. I mean its not like females make of the majority of the human race or anything

Beat me to the punch!

As for the OP, it shouldn't matter if the lead is male, female, straight, gay, bi, trans, white, black, yellow, red, green or purple with pink polka dots. Is it a good story? Great! That's all that matters.

Star Trek is supposed to be about diversity. Or is that not the case when a white male isn't in the captain's chair? That is so stupid. It's the 21st century looking at a fictionalized 23rd century. Why do we have to make such a big deal about this? Why do we have to discuss this being contrived? It's ridiculous.

My advice?
Get. Over. It.
Or don't watch.
The choice is yours.

I completely agree with what you're saying. It is strange the way posters can twist what you say and make it sound like you're anti women or similar. Far from it. I am merely stating there has been a recent surge in neo-PC appeasement in TV and Movies. I am hoping this is not the case with Discovery.

How does one fit a neo-PC mould?

What makes it contrived?
Remember the remaking of Fantastic Four? That is neo-PC appeasement on overdrive. A black guy as the human torch. Like wise with the upcoming Dark Tower movie and Idris Elba playing the part of the gunslinger. Anyone who's read the series will know Roland is white and was modeled on Clint Eastwood. Don't get me wrong here (which I am sure many will) both Wallace and Stringer were SUPERB in The Wire.

And Steven King was 100% on board with the casting. They did not cast based off race, really Rolands race is a minor thing, it only played in a bit with Savannah and even that can be redone by calling him an "uncle tom". This was not a PC move but based off his screen cast, and really I think he is going to totally nail this role.

Perhaps but in light of all the "white genocide" bullshit in regards to this casting, it's not a topic that really doesn't need to be brought up lest you are prepared for this fair onslaught of groaning over the topic.

In simpler language: It shouldn't matter. You bringing it up makes it make people think it does matter. To you.

In the post below you mention Fant4stic and The Dark Tower. Perhaps it's not a case of "neo-PC appeasement." Perhaps it's because they were the best people for the roles.

I haven't seen the new Fantastic Four movie, but aren't the Human Torch and the Invisible Woman supposed to be siblings? How does that work if they are clearly of different ethnicities? Not that I would generally be bothered much by a change like this. It worked great for Nick Fury.

Not seen it but IIRC it was either half sibs or by marriage, which works. It was not the casting that killed that movie. And Fury was actually based off the Ultimate version, which is turn was drawn to look like jackson, So he was playing a character that was based off his likenesses lol

I won't pass judgement on Discovery just yet. I will give it a go and will post what I think about it afterwards. However, in recent times I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the number of contrived female lead movies we've had. Both the new Star Wars movies had featured female leads who fit this description. It is over the top PC nonsense.

Don't get me wrong, I like women in strong roles. My two favourite movies of all time are Terminator and Aliens and both featured very strong female leads. Ripley is arguably the best female action lead of all time.

Both Michelle Yeoh and Martin-Green are good actors but I feel they themselves maybe compromised in trying to deliver something that appeases the neo-PC brigade.
Hello new person starting a blatantly obvious troll thread in order to draw infractions for other posters who are rightfully fed up with this ignorant and sexist nonsense cropping up in multiple topics.

Thread closed.
