The New USS Discovery....

^^ USS Vengeance. Has a ring to it.

BTW Shenzhou literally means "Divine Craft" or "Divine Vessel of God". I definitely expect to see a Deity of some sort in DSC.

Not happy with the Discovery ship designs. So in 5 years time, starship science by the TOS era gets radically different. Doesn't fit.

Someone better go tell HMS Dreadnought it shouldn't exist. Sudden, radical design changes that obsolete previous shipbuilding practices simply can't happen.

Or the RV Triton and the USS Independance - some of the first trimaran vessels in western military after centuries of single hull designs.

That phrase is missing "IMHO".

Nah, its not the 1960s, it should not look old, dated or luke a fan film or it auto fails. Making it look like the TOS is doing just that. This is a fact, like it or not.

Look at the ENT mirror episodes. They look goofy and campy as the Constitution looks old, dated and a child of the 60s. Next to the NX it looked like somones old moldel T, they brought out to put next to a modern one. And we are not gonna even cover its dated 60 tech and uniforms.

Yep it was named after the space shuttle Discovery. Which was OV-103.
OV-103? NCC-1031? Discovery? Hmmm, now where could they have gotten the inspiration for the NCC number from? Boggles the mind.

Also, I recently read that the submarine USS Dallas was named that because the intended mission was for it's crew to constantly watch old episodes of a nighttime drama about oil barons.

Yeah, I don't think ship naming works that way.

The name has to fit the ship. I maintain that one would not name a pure warship Discovery, Curiosity, Heisenberg, etc, in the same way that one would not name a science ship Revenge, Vanguard, Nimitz or Terror. That simply makes no sense what so ever. Naming them after things like towns, or states works for both. Then there is the unfortunate trend of naming practically anything after politicians.

Nah. Ships are named for people, places, events and actions.
