The New USS Discovery....

I'd rather you not. That image is an unfinished work in progress based on speculation. Quite frankly I shouldn't have posted it because it's so crappy.

Love the look of the Discovery in that new poster.

However, or those long nacelles, or did they use a stretch effect to make them blurry indicating speed?

Just noted an error in my video as I had misread: the Discovery is actually the NEWER ship versus the Shenzhou. I'd thought that maybe the advanced tech in the Shenzhou could be because it was a prototype starship...

Discovery is 'newer' than Shenzhou - now, this theory hinges on a very loose interpretation of the phrase, and the assumption that the Discovery itself is trapped in the spatial distortions within the anomaly that has trapped the Klingon sarcophagus ship.

So it's probably all waffle, but - hey-ho.

Discovery is launched in 2200 - gets sucked into an anomaly in 2201 whilst on deep space reconnaissance and then spat out sixty years later in 2260. It was commissioned and launched sixty years ago, but the ship is only 1 year old.

Shenzhou is launched in 2220 - does not get sucked into an anomaly and travels to 2260 by the long route (to paraphrase Doctor Who). Commissioned in 2220, the ship is 40 years old by 2260.

Although Discovery is commissioned earlier, the Shenzhou is technically the older ship - but as it was commissioned last, it has the higher registration number.

^ Pretty sure that's not how time works, nor how tech develops. A ship made in 2220 would still be newer than a ship made in 2200 regardless of time looping. As everyone knows registry numbers are pretty bunk in Trek. Loads of examples. I appreciate the creative theory though, always fun to have ideas out in the wings. Sometimes I wish story telling was more willing to be this out there. As from what has been shown and stated USS Shenzhou is older and even pulls plenty from ENT designs while USS Discovery as also stated is newer and clearly pulls more from traditional TOS/TMP design elements. My guess is Shenzhou is made pre-klingon/fed war so maybe late 2230s? While the Discovery will be the new 2250s ship. Technically making it newer than the USS Enterprise circa 2245.

The description of Lorca as a "brilliant military tactician" leads me to believe the Discovery is akin to a warship, leading to Burnham's decision to aschew her peaceful science background to follow a more aggressive path. Previously, I thought the Shenzhou was a Dreadnought class (mainly due to Trekywards saying it was a very large ship) but with the Discovery showing similarities to the USS Vengeance and appearing from inside what must be a top secret ship-building facility within an asteroid, I now think it is the Discovery that is Dreadnought class...

I'm convinced the show will take place on a ship in space that will go to different places. It'll follow one character mainly.

Everything else is idle fan speculation.

My God man!! A reasonable post in a Discovery thread?? What have you done?!?!?

"I'm going to build the biggest, baddest warship for our secret war orginisation!"

"Sweet! What should we name it? Deathboat? Dominator? Smashbang?"

"The USS Tranquility!"

"Spot on sir, well done!"
