The Doctor Falls.... (Spoilers)

As much as I would like to have The Rani return, I hope Missy isn't her. Not just because the mental gymnastics that would have to be performed in order to make sense of her behavior for the last three seasons pretending to be The Master, but also because it would rob the power of seeing a major Time Lord character change gender. As oppose to hearing about it (The Corsair) or possibly a one-off character (Donald Sumpter's The President who may or may not be the resurrected Rassilon).

I bet this is all a holodeck simulation type thing the Dr sets up unknown to everybody else, to test Missy with mondas cyberman and Sims master, trying to tempt her back to her old evil ways........

With 2 masters and the return of the mondasian cybermen, the finale has the necessary ingredients for an epic conclusion. And this season desperately needs some epic goodness!

My suspicion is that if it's a simulation as per the Monks (and the voice in the trailer clip sounds like them), that the Simm Master will turn out to be a TNG-Moriarty-style sentient copy who escapes the simulation.

Yep! I just keep hoping, please don't suck! We've had the potential for epic stories before that ended up flopping. That can always happen. However, it seems to happen more often lately.

I hope it's all played straight up. That it's not a simulation. I want to see two Masters meet for real. I want to see the original Cybermen again . . . for real. Well, as real as you can get for a TV show. But, both allow for some interesting possibilities storytelling possibilities that I'd hate to see squandered by being a simulation.

My prediction for the episode: the doctor discovers this ship around a black hole. He sends Missy with Bill and Nardole out of the TARDIS to do some simple reconnaissance. The Doctor thinks this will be an easy way to test Missy to see if she is changing. On the ship, they discover the Mondasian cybermen who are being controlled by the Simm's Master. Missy betrays the Doctor and joins forces with Simm's Master. Bill and Nardole are captured by the cybermen. The Doctor is trapped in the part of the ship where time is slower so he is basically frozen in place. That's your cliffhanger.

Time Lords have historically used black holes as power sources. It makes sense that Simm would messing around with a black hole.

I also wonder if Missy has memories of their meeting from the Simm Master's point of view. Usually, the earlier incarnations of the Doctor don't remember multiple Doctor stories (except Time Crash). However, if she does remember, then she knows that all she has to do is to ride it out with the Doctor until he inevitably meets her previous self.

I think you're probably right about at least the first part. Her trying to be like the Doctor explains the scenes in the trailer. He's taking a huge gamble with Bill and Nardole though!

Good point. Yeah, I would not be surprised if Simm is not using the black hole to power the cybermen conversion process or something.

Probably, and it would explain why she never appeared worried or stressed about being locked up in the Vault. She is not worried because she already knows that she will get out when she meets her past self.

Well, it would explain the scene in the trailer where Bill tells the Doctor "Just promise me this will not get me killed". The Doctor probably explained his plan with Missy to Bill who is understandably concerned about being sent off with Missy.

Headless monks, headed monks. Maybe we'll see the headless monk's heads next season....in boxes like Dorium.

Did they ever have a beheaded Dorium action "figure"? A life-size version would be cool.

Is this how Bill gets written out?

If you look closely at her in the BBC America trailer you can see the conversion process is already underway.

I don't think they'll go that dark. It would be interesting, but a companion hasn't died in a long time (even Clara didn't stay dead), so I doubt Bill will end that way. It would be interesting though, and show that there is some real danger to being The Doctor's companion.

Well the episode description says: "Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake?"

The thing is the way the series has gone that could also be a reference to Missy.

I wonder if we will see the Simm Master actually regenerate into Missy, and we have 2 Missy's for a little while? many possibilities.
