WB's Justice League 2017 movie pre-discussion thread

until most of this is decanonised by Flashpoint and she returns to the twenty-something Batgirl that she mostly left behind back in 1972 (publishing timeline)

Post Flashpoint, the general sequence of events is the same, only they happened on a compressed timeline.
And now the timeline is decompressing, so it should be interesting to see how much of it gets fully recanonised...

^^
Actually, that has been scrapped as well.
Instead we're getting Justice Lady

If they use anything from TKJ, I at least hope they write it so Barbara was just shot, not paralyzed. I much prefer Barbara as Oracle, but the New 52 explanation of "She can walk again because...We need her to, so shut up and give us your money" was beyond idiotic. Having her get shot, retire from being Batgirl, deal with PTSD and then (presumably) return to being a hero is a way to make TKJ-ish events work without having to pretend that a spine shattering injury just heals on its own.
I have kind of mixed feelings on this one, on one hand I hate what TKJ did to Babs, so I would have no problem just ignoring it in the DCEU, but at the same time Oracle was nice representation for people with disabilities and a lot more interesting than just another Bat hero, so I'd hate to lose that. Although if Oracle is going just be a part of her backstory, and not actually part of any of the stories, then I don't think there'd be a lot of harm in not using it.

Ooh, here's an idea: Since Batman is older in this continuity, with a fair amount of history, what they could do is to establish that Jim Gordon's wife Barbara Keane was the original Batgirl, and was then paralyzed and became Oracle, the role she now holds in the present, and now her namesake daughter is following in her footsteps as the new Batgirl. Not sure the timing quite works out, but it's a possibility.

I'm so on board with turning the movie into a Justice Lady movie.

Movies with multiple superheroes generally bore me to death because there's just not enough room for characterization or character development. It's obviously even worse when it's Superjerk and BatTank in an unpleasant movie full of unpleasant images but I thoroughly disliked Avengers, too. Just endless over the top action scenes.

LOL--I think this is filler conversation until something new comes out. I just finished watching the extended cut of BVS and it really is a much better movie with a lot of the originally omitted details making the story much more fleshed out. Of course, some of the elements are just not fixable like the Luthor and Perry White characters--but taking the story for what it is I really do like this movie.

I saw the extended cut and thought the added content just made the movie even more bloated because it didn't add anything of relevance. It turned an incoherent and unpleasant mess of a movie into an even longer incoherent and unpleasant mess.
