The New USS Discovery....

We've seen that Planet Of The Titans concept art inspired the design of the USS Discovery. We've seen that The Motion Picture (and Into Darkness) concept art inspired the design of the Klingons. Perhaps Phase II concept art will inspire the design of the shuttlecraft.

And Saru's design being on unused Beyond alien concept. And the Klingon forehead detail resembling unused Into Darkness Klingon foreheads.

I do wonder if they decided to cut corners by plucking everything from old concept art instead of commissioning anything new:lol:

Neville is my friend so I will not reply to the Saru comment (because it would be talking out of turn and there's a story there I am sure that will be shared one day) but it's not corner cutting and it's his 'style' it's not re-using an old concept. Big difference.

My comment was intended as jest (hence the emoji), not as a knock to anyone involved.

Why not? Star Wars has been doing it for years!

Well, there was nothing particularly "spacecrafty" about the TOS shoebox. The Phase II lander was, of course, being designed in the era of the NASA space shuttle development program.

This is true, but in this case I think there are are other unused concepts that are more interesting to draw inspiration from like the earlier Matt Jeffries shuttles (because I am pretty sure Matt did the PII shuttles) from the TOS era. Those have some interesting ideas that could be teased out and updated.

Sorry, been a long day already! And also so many people are tearing down a dhow they haven't even seen yet, kinda wears on you!
I've fallen back to a complete wait-and-see position. After all, we have but a teaspoon of knowledge versus an ocean's worth of speculation.

I like a lot of the Phase II stuff, the shuttle was not one of them - too much small aircraft not enough spacecraft.

Has potential though.

So...this looks almost exactly like the July 2016 render that we knew was already different by the time it launched (below is the first DSC I drew and it looks pretty similar)

As far as my knowledge, that is not Discovery's final design. They might be holding off the reveal for later and just using the old one as a placeholder for that poster. Now, it COULD have changed, but last I saw of Discovery, it looked more like the fan art a few pages back.

The color scheme has notably improved!
But yeah, this is almost the exact teaser version, except for more details. Which I like. The biggest problem of the teaser traielr version was the underside of the secondary hull, the underbally that looked like a cardboard box.

I cannot determine wether the negative space is still the same, or if they have holes throughout. Hard to make out against the black background.

Edit: Also, it looks as if the nacelles are now slightly raised! At least there is a tiny bit of shadow from the left nacelle. Could be just the nacelle itself, though...
