Does anyone remember which original TV series episode it was where Kirk was communicating with either the Enterprise or another ship and stated something to the effect it is all a “green light” which was really a code word for in trouble so the Enterprise was taken over remotely? I’ve searched and searched and can’t figure out which episode it was. Please help me solve this mystery.

"Bread and Circuses." Merikus is trying to get Kirk to order the Enterprise crew members down to the planet to be gladiators. Kirk doesn't play along, and says into his communicator:

"Condition Green; all's well. Kirk out."

Merik says:

"Ah, that was stupid, Jim. This is not an Academy training test; this is for real. They're taking you to die."

Wow - thanks so much for the quick and accurate replies! Much appreciated for sure.

One other question if I may. I think I had some confusion. The "Bread and Circuses" episode used the "Condition Green" code word, but which episode did Kirk give give some sort of covert signal for the Enterprise (or another ship?) to be taken control over remotely thus outsmarting the bad guy?

Sounds like you're thinking of the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Kirk transmits a secret access code to make Khan's captured ship, the Reliant, lower its deflector shields.

I love that scene.
Joachim: Our shields are dropping.
Khan: Then raise them!
Joachim: [pounds fists on console] I can't!
Khan: The override. Where's the override?
Kirk: Fire

Also in TWOK:
Kirk: Kirk to Spock.
Spock: Spock here, Admiral.
Kirk: Captain Spock, it's two hours. Are you ready?
Spock: Right on schedule, Admiral. Just give us your co-ordinates and we'll beam you aboard.
Kirk: All right. [to Saavik] I don't like to lose.

Thanks so much for clearing that up! That must be it - I've seen so many since the original TV episodes. Thanks again!

I don't know if this is what you might be looking for, but there was that opening scene in the episode "The Day of the Dove" where Kang held Kirk at gunpoint and forced Kirk to beam all the Klingons on board the Enterprise so that the Klingons can take over the ship.

Kirk couldn't verbally tell Spock what was really going on. So instead, Kirk -- unbeknownst -- to Kang, pushes a button on his communicator that made a warning light on the Enterprise captain's chair flash, indicating that the landing party was in trouble.

Spock took appropriate action and I'm sure you know the rest.

I was thinking Day of The Dove as well where Kirk's team is taken prisoner and he cleverly presses a button on his communicator before The Klingons are delayed in transit as it were!

OK, I know I'm responding many years later, but just ran across this.

Bread and Circuses is the correct episode. When Kirk tells Scotty, "Condition: Green" it is telling Scotty: "Something is wrong, but do not interfere." Which, of course, Scotty does, iirc. :). So it was a clever way to alert the Enterprise, but makes it sound to "the bad guys" that he's telling them everything is fine.

This episode happens to be one of my favorites. So, the only reason I know... lol. I even made myself one of those grey t-shirts with the chain links that Kirk wore...

Welcome to the board.

Please take some time to review the posting rules pinned at the top of this forum. Specifically, the one about resurrecting old threads. This one has been dead for almost 8 years, and the person you’re responding to also hasn’t been here in years.

Thanks!
