Wow, that sucks! Adam made the most of his campy turn at Batman and milked a lot of entertainment out of it as he embraced it in his later years. Just hearing his voice show up in different places could make you smile.
Wow, he was one of those older celebrities that you kind of think will never die because of their personality. Even though he was 88 years old, it still feels like a shock. RIP Adam West
*salute* He may not have been the first onscreen superhero, but he was the first to teach many of us how to be a superhero. Yeah, his Batman was jokey as hell, but we were all laughing with him, not at him. He never showed up on screen in anything bringing less than his A game. May the Pearly Gates give him the warm welcome he deserves.
Damn! Yes, he embraced that 'Adam West' persona, and used it to good use, if you know what I mean. Funny in Family Guy as The Mayor. Rest in peace, Sir. Condolences to his family and friends. Another of our heroes has left us.
Well said. He was more than just an actor, but a husband and father--the biggest "role" of his life, but he did carve out an unforgettable place in entertainment history.
When I was a kid in the early '70s, Batman re-runs in the afternoon were something I could not miss. My mom would laugh at the funny stuff and I would get mad at her. Batman was on serious business! He did such a great job in the over-the-top comic role he was most famous for because he was a great actor. That's what he was supposed to play and he nailed it. But he was good in everything he did. Sad, sad news.
I owe a lifetime of geekery to the first time I saw a Batman rerun when I was about four years old. A tip of the cowl to Mr. West.
RIP Mr. West. Batman was part of my childhood. I remember watching Batman and Robin, it might have been campy but that was fine with me.
Very sad news indeed. He was absolultely great on Batman, I honestly think the main reason the even worked was because of the performances from him and the rest of the cast. Even though I got tired of Family Guy, Mayor Adam West is still one of my favorite parts.
I've listened to his commentary on the 1960(ish) Batman movie....very warm and funny guy. I discovered him simutaneously with Star Trek when I was hospitalized back in the 1990s.
