I think Lucas & Roddenberry had some good ideas but in the end others improved on their ideas.

Although TOS was what I grew up on, I do prefer Picard over KIrk.

I think that many people do like both Star Trek and Star Wars but prefer one over the other...for me I like Trek a great deal more.

Also he has another good line in a future ep were Tigh walks into the pilot briefing room and asks him were his parents are because he is somewhere where Tigh doesn't think he should be and he answers "Dead. Were are yours."

It's usually for very slight, very general reasons (back in the 80's/90's if there was something set in a starship it was a "Star Trek ripoff"... because spaceship). Also it's usually brought up by people who have ONLY experience with sci-fi (and usually only popular sci-fi) and miss some of the more blatant influences. Basically it's sci-fi/fantasy fans being sci-fi/fantasy fans and finding patterns in things that aren't there and getting worked up about it. Not all the time, but most of it.

X ship vs Y ship / X universe vs Y universe - It's a bit of fun for the imagination, though the more realistic shows will end up losing to the more fantastical.

Marvel comic vs DC comics - Neither, they're both largely terrible. Their IPs generally do far better in other mediums, largely because they're run by a few people with a combined vision.

Yeah, that drives me nutty, too. That being said, I can understand the Deep Space Nine versus Babylon 5 debate. I'm not saying I think one ripped off the other (they really didn't), but I can see why and how that argument comes up.
