Wonder Woman (2017)

It will be interesting to see what superhero movies look like in a few years if this, Black Panther, Aquman and Captain Marvel are all successful.
The nice thing with Wonder Woman is that it looks like there's a legit movie in place for her. Thinking of previous efforts like Catwoman and Elektra I don't think you could say the same. Though the X-movies have had women leading in some prominent roles but this looks solid at least.

Movies with "bad word of mouth" don't generally earn 700 million or more EACH, which is exactly what happened with all 3 of the DCEU films released so far.

The reason why Hollywood prefers preexisting properties is that the end result is bad films like BvS can make money off the name-recognition of the characters whereas something like Jupiter Ascending can't. You need a mega-bomb like Green Lantern that commits the ultimate sin of being boring.

Not only that, the box office take of late suggests that Chinese moviegoers are just not that discriminating as long as there is a suitable number of Michael Bay style moments. So a film can bomb in the US and still do respectably overall.

This buffer in the market may prevent someone like Snyder from getting pushed out of the role he clearly doesn't deserve, whereas in the old regime, WB knew when to stick a fork in, let's say, the Burtonverse Batman franchise.

Are you basing this off only the Transformer (and the various MCU/DCEU) films? I would point out the new SW films have done very disappointing there so more special effects explosions may not necessarily be solely what is driving viewership.

Star Wars lack of success in China is headscratching and I imagine the suits at Disney are baffled as well. In a world where Warcraft can make $221 million and TF4 can make $320 million in China, respectively. TFA $124 million and Rogue One's $69 million dollar grosses are lacking. Rogue One which cast 2 big name Chinese actors presumably to add intrigue to the Chinese audience.

For comparisons sake. Other recent and big grosses at the Chinese BO.

Fate of the Furious - $388 million
Jurassic World - $215 million
Captain America 3 - $190 million
X-Men Apocalypse - $120 million
Batman v Superman - $90 million
Fantastic Beasts - $86 million
Star Trek Beyond - $65 million

I think it's rather that Transformers and WoW are just much more popular. Transformers is a beloved franchise there that extends back to the beginning of the capitalists reforms (it's also host to most of the upscale bootleg transformer companies in East and South East Asia). And WoW is a a very popular MMO franchise. Star Wars was just never as popular probably exactly because people missed the OT.

Hey...I don't know if it was discussed...but any Wonder Woman tie ins yet? Like a Happy Meal at McDonald's or other fast food place?

Ha, ha, no.

Imagine you've never seen Star Wars, and it isn't a part of your culture. So you go see a movie that starts by announcing that "SOME GUY IS MISSING!", but who he is isn't at all explained. Then you see a dude deciding to escape from an army because he doesn't like killing, except he whoops with pleasure while killing his comrades on his way out. Then you see some girl living in the wreckage of a long-ago space battle, and wonder why you aren't watching the movie of that battle instead. Then some dude in a mask is praying to a helmet. Then the girl is captured and now she has magic powers for no reason whatsoever. Then she meets an old dude and a walking dog who once knew that guy the opening text crawl says has gone missing, but you still don't know why you should care about him. Then the old guy meets an old lady, and they're the parents of the masked dude! And then there's a lot of fighting, and some random planets get blown up, the old dude dies, and the girl leaves to find the missing dude.

Meanwhile, there's no explanation for why anyone has powers, no love story, the black dude and the white girl only kinda barely like each other, the old people don't really do anything, and who cares about that missing guy again? But hey, the round orange droid is kinda cute.

Hell, I was bored by the movie and barely cared about anyone onscreen, and I grew up with this franchise.

;)

McDonalds doesn't really do happy meal toys for these kinds of movies any more. I think people got upset that they were promoting PG-13 movies to little kids.
Burger King has done some stuff geared towards adult collectors for these kinds of movies in the past, I've got both LOTR and Star Trek glasses that they sold. I just checked their website and Facebook and it doesn't look they're doing anything.
I did see an add for some WW themed stuff at a Cold Stone Creamery just a little while ago. I was getting lunch at a different place nearby, so I don't know exactly what the WW stuff is or if it's any good. That's the only thing like that I've seen so far.
Of course there's also tons of figures, Barbie style dolls, Funko Pops and stuff like that.

Damn, Gaith! You didn't have to drag Disney like that. Hahaha. I mean, talk about deep fried.

Yeah, Wonder Woman has usually killed (although its usually a last resort in the good WW comics, she's not some bloodthirsty warrior or anything and I've read some excellent comics where she goes out of her way to not kill people), and it especially makes sense in a war. In that situation it makes sense to kill, she's not mowing down people in a car or snapping necks even if there are alternatives. She's on the battlefield of/fighting in and around WWI, not a lot of non-lethal ways to do stuff in that situation (although Batman still wouldn't kill in a situation like that, but he'd have gadgets and he has a different style of doing things so its just an example of different characters handling a situation in different ways).

If WW in Justice League went around killing criminals (at least relatively small time criminals like robbers, thieves, etc) it would probably be a problem. But in the situation she's taking part of in her movie? It would be weird if she didn't kill.
