Is Left Hand of Destiny a rare Trek book(s)?

I remember having paid overly much for part one of the two books several years ago. I acquired it via Amazon. It was definitely worth buying it because of a great story, but I won't pay that much ever again for a Trek book. I could easily have bought 3 or 4 novels from its worth.

I'm not finding the 2 volumes at any of the discount bookstores or Barnes and Noble and they're starting at $25 on Amazon.

If it's any help, there is a place called Gray Wolf Books in San Leandro, CA that is
HUGE!! They have or can find any book you want, at a reasonable and fair rate. :techman:

Amazon, B&N, and Google Play all have the e-book of Book One for US$5.99 and Book Two for US$6.99.

I was damned lucky to find some cheap second hand copies. No idea why there aren't many really.

I have the two parts in paperback, but I don't remember paying more than street price at the time.

Maybe I should look into the collector value. ;)

I remember I bought my copies back in 2003, but I didn't get around to reading them till last fall, 13 years later. They were the last Season 8 books I needed to read, and yeah the books take place before Avatar, as Worf and Martok have just left DS9 after "What You Leave Behind".

I'm not really into Trek books, but those are good. I've read them several times.

But they're still in near mint condition, if anyone's interested in paying a premium. Just sayin'. :techman:

Possibly because the duology wasn't essential reading to the ongoing saga, so less copies were bought upfront and the books didn't go into multiple reprints. The duology had also been announced, then delayed by at least a year.

During the time when it looked like the books might never turn up, J.G. Hertzler toured Australia at some SF conventions. I got to ask him a question from the audience and naturally mentioned his Trek books being in limbo. No one else seemed to know about them. His face lit up and he said that, unfortunately for him, it turned out that he wasn't a very good novelist and when Pocket Books saw what he'd come up with so far they had called in a co-author to help him out: Jeffrey Lang! Which thrilled me no end, because Jeff had written my favourite TNG novel, "Immortal Coil".

So I was able to go to the old PsiPhi bbs and announce the news!

I was lucky to find secondhand copies of the books a few years ago. At my used book store before they went out of business.

Another good place to look for used Star Trek books is Thriftbooks.com . I have found that most paperback titles run less than $4.00 and you can get free shipping if you buy three books or more. They also have a reward program that can save you even more money.

In my experience, books from the early-to-mid 2000's are extremely hard to find in person. I've only just recently been able to complete the DS9 relaunch and find all nine of the A Time To... novels via used bookstores.

Perhaps also because people aren't ready to sell them off. To make room, they ditched the Bantams and numbered Pockets, holding onto the DS9 and TNG post-series titles.
