Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

The identity of that 3rd Krytonian isn't actually a mystery, as the writers identified the character in the same scene we're introduced to her. Her name is Reign.

This is undoubtedly going to cause some people to wring their hands unnecessarily, but Floriana Lima is not returning as a Series Regular. She'll still be in multiple episodes, but won't be credited as "Starring".

In Hollywood? Right now?

Neither of them.

Who has had the more interesting career since X-FIles, doing theater and film as well as TV with some frequency? Easy one: Anderson.

What's Duchovny done that's been noticed other than Californication?

He might come back as a bit Part that big-budget, mass-marketable, juggernaut of a franchise: Twin Peaks?

Oh, and he was the lead in that shitty show about Charles Manson. That axed, shitty, show.

jayson1 I largely agree with that but the people at the top are mostly white Men.
I know but that is why I have always felt it was more important to tear down the system instead of trying to bring equality within it. Look at systemic racism with the police. Just getting more people of color in the ranks doesn't really solve the problem as a whole because I think their is some truth in the idea that the system changes you more than you can change it.
I would love universal standards for all police,no guns like the British have it and how about having other departments help relieve some of their workload.

Why are you talking about "Supergirl?" This isn't a "Supergirl" thread. :)

A simple thing that made me smile me this last ep.

Cat Grant screaming "MISS TESMACHER!" :klingon:

Do you think TPTB made Callista & Snapper Carr's alter ego watch the early movies to get the nuance "just" right? :rommie:

One thing I missed in this last ep was Alex. Alex had very little to do "action-wise" this week, especially compared to the previous one.

One thing I didn't miss was the fact that Cat Grant read Kara's article posted on her "blob" ;) re the alien registry and did NOT GIVE her grief about posting it on a "competing" platform. :bolian:

(This is an image-intensive post. If it's too much, moderators are [obsiuvly] absolutely free to delete any pictures :) )
I have to put the final word in the "Supergirl vs Superman" matter. In the most scientific way.
First, I, ehm, tracked down a copy of the DC Heros RPG.
mayfair93_cover.jpg

This rule book (and the supplemental books) was written with direct input from the DC Comics editorial staff (for example Alan Moore collaborated with the Watchmen sourcebook)

Then I used the official stats of the (precrisis) Superman and Supergirl

Superman:

Supergirl:

As you can see, some Superman stats, like Strength, are superior to her cousin's ones. But, like every RPG player knows, a fight result isn't only the mathematical comparison between some numbers (well, like the real life).

First of all, it was clear that Superman wasn't completely thinking straight. So a Master would low his Dexterity and Intelligence stats of some points (Dexterity is useful to dodge attacks, remember how in the episodes Kara dodged more punches than Kal).

Then, a Master would limit how many strength points Superman can use. Remember, we are talking about Superman. Throughout his life he has always limited, consciously or unconsciously, how much force to use against a living being. And they were fighting in a populated city.

Then there are the Hero Points. Kara can burn all her Hero Points to momentarily increase her fighting stats. Exactly like when in comics a hero burns his/her last reserves for a last attack.

In addition, obviously, sheer luck must be considered (the results of dices rolls). With a little luck Supergirl can obtain some Critical Blow and/or Devastating Attack (there are special rules for them).

Considering all of these elements, could Supergirl beat Superman? Absolutely yes. Would it be difficult? Obviously yes (and it wasn't a piece of cake in the episode too). And probably the fight would leave Supergirl with her Resistance Points almost completely depleted (and again, in the episode she passed out).

'nuff said!

The head band is so that Kara stops setting her hair on fire with her heat ray vision?
Near the end of her adventures, she further added a red headband — a symbol of citizenship on Krypton — to her garb, to remember her roots. Historically the headband was only worn by Kryptonian men, but Kara thought the old Krypton customs were stuffy and women on Earth could wear anything the men did, anyway.

Fun stuff: in the Precrisis universe, only Jor-El and Lara died in the Krypton's explosion. Everyone else was on Argo, Kandor, in the Phantom Zone, on an experimental rocket, etc etc...

I haven't called anyone sexist.

....aanndd...

I imagine they would be happy that Supergirl is upsetting sexists so much.

Caught in yet another lie.

I'm also not a misandrist, I'm actually offended by that.

If you support misandrist ideology or practice, the charge tends to stick to you.

Additionally, you have spent pages insulting members with "panties in a bunch" and...

You poor babies

...among other things, all because you cannot stand anyone exposing the agenda of this series' showrunners, and the offensive message it sends. In fact, you've mocked any offense to it, so enough with the buckets of hypocritical behavior you pour over this thread.

then it's entirely fair for a few shows to turn the tables on them. Is that not fair and equal? Not really. Especially when it's mainly limited to Supergirl. But at least men are treated fairly (meaning superior to women), because the single worst thing happening to men is Supergirl making fun of them. You poor babies.

Aside from your never ending insults, you're still ignoring examples in film and TV that stand in opposition to your sweeping fantasy.

And "limited to Supergirl?" There's been this kind of abusive treatment in one form or another in TV for (at least) thirty years, usually known as the "stupid man / smart woman" or "stupid husband / smart wife" pattern on some of the most highly visible U.S. series of the past generation, such as (for a few examples) Married...with Children, Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs and The King of Queens among many series. In every case, the man (or men) is either a man-child, dullard in the extreme, or a whiner who needs to be routinely insulted about every element of his being. That the long running examples were not only approved but were so aggressively marketed by their networks meant that mistreatment of men was encouraged as a routine part of TV production, all packaged for consumption by millions.

Continue to deny it. Continue to pretend that in inequality felt from one side means it must be returned in some childish, tit for tat manner, when that stands as the polar opposite of any serious desire to achieve equality. All it says is that some are interested in revenge, not erasing societal sins.

Finally caught up....

I though the finale was very good. If you didn't tear up a little when Mon-El left, you're dead inside!

Supergirl defeats Superman.... so what? I can't believe the amount of argument regarding this. Superman took his beating better than his fans did! Man, are you guys going to hate Wonder Woman...

Bonus points for Calista Flockhart: "Okay, whatever. I've never seen Star Wars."

Melissa Benoist is an absolute gem. I can't imagine anyone else in this role. She's perfect.

:techman:

Another simple thing I loved about the last ep.

At minute 22.35 on the video, when Rhea and Supergirl begin their final battle by leaping into the air at each other... looks just like a center spread comic book panel. :bolian:

And although I missed the sisterly hug at the end of the ep that we've come to expect between these women, I did get the "big sister charging into the pool" to steady a teetering, kneeling Kara just before she passed out (off screen) after knocking out Superman.

Thanks for the analysis of a possible Super on Super fight, Skipper. :vulcan:

After re-watching the fight, I feel there's another factor that likely lead to Superman's loss. ;)

He has a floor length cape and Kara's is just 3/4 length. The weight of water soaking his cape OBVIOUSLY was heavier than that soaking hers and minutely tired him out more than her in the rock'em sock'em battle.

As anyone knows who's watched an Olympic Champion win by hundreds of a second...

https://www.wired.com/2012/07/10-incredibly-close-olympic-finishes/

...a miniscule advantage is sometimes all anyone really needs.

He has a wife!!!

Or at least if Kara's rescue mission arrives 10 years late, he'll have totally hooked up with Shadow Lass.
