I would say it's about as far as a Trek show could be from Voyager, to be honest.

Engineered. Not every species is necessarily going to die from same things as others. For a mostly human crew, assign a [species name goes here] who is dialed in to what makes humans croak. For a Klingon crew, angst and penetrative trauma.
That's my assessment. As we were saying from the beginning on this forum, there's no way it was realistically going to be anything else, whatever the producers may call the timeline.
wouldn't be surprised. this is supposed to be after Enterprise and before TOS, so i suppose they may have chosen ship style to reflect at least something from the other shows visually.
I don't think we have enough to go on quite yet to say. If you mean just the look of the show I don't think so. From the little we see I think they are trying to appease the older and newer fans. There is a bit of retro with the look of the communicators and (what we think is) tricorders but the overall look seems pretty modern.
This is something I'm very interested in. I know nothing of the actor's work outside of his character in Orphan Black, but in Orphan Black he's a wonderful bad guy.
If there was one bit of the trailer I didn't like, it was that. What a weirdly specific and melodramatic 'power'. Seems a bit Deanna Troi.
It seems like the Main character has a conenction to Vulcan based on the poster or whatever that is.
I don't know at this point if Discovery will be any good, but I'll give it a chance to prove itself. I don't care if this show doesn't really look like it fits pre-TOS; this is a modern show produced with modern techniques and modern sensibilities. If it doesn't exactly match the aesthetic of TOS, oh freakin' well. It was never going to, anyway. Does anyone here sincerely believe that a multi-billion dollar corporation was going to spend millions of dollars to exactly replicate the "future" aesthetic of a series that's a half-century old?

He's also in Gotham, I preferred him in Orphan Black though.

If that is a Shenzhou ship graphic on his monitor, then the warp nacelles are actually underslung. Looks kinda like a Klingon battlecruiser in profile, too.
The android seems to have the label “U.S.S. Shenzhou” on the side of his head.
After having waited for so long and the bumpy production of the show I remain somewhat skeptical. But this trailer looks really promising. It definetely looks like the Kelvinverse - which is a good thing. I like the uniforms. I'm already trying to piece together the premise of the show from the trailers and it could be very intriguing.
But we saw the TOS look on Enterprise, the only show that's canon in both Trekverses. No doubt this would cause a rift in space-time.I suggest they just declare TOS's look to not be canon.
Long time lurker, finally joined. So, I'm also one of the old timers. Watched TOS from the beginning, and was pretty much resigned to the fact that I probably wouldn't be alive when and if Trek ever made it back to the small screen. With that said this trailer removed any trepidation I had around Discovery.
The only down side for me anyway, was I had pretty much been coasting along patiently waiting. Signed up for CBSAA back in Nov last year. All was good. This trailer sent all that crashing to the ground. I really can't wait to see this show. Looks really promising, and I'm really interested to see how the cast start to settle into their characters, and begin to own them. As someone already said: It's a good day to be a Star Trek fan. Nothing in that trailer to suggest I'd miss anything worth seeing if I swerved the whole show. Impressive visuals, but Seth McFarlane's The Orville has those judging from its trailer. They're par for the course for modern TV sci-fi. Some very wooden acting, clear miscasting, and a poor script in that Discovery trailer. Far too Abrams movie Trek for me. Uniforms are terrible. Klingons look like alien of the week rejects from Enterprise.
I doubt it will get past one season. There's far too much else out there that's competing for people's time and attention, and much of it's a lot better than what's in that trailer.

Other than the Klingons, I really liked that trailer. The uniforms look slick, kind of like a continuation of Enterprise rather than the original. I'm very much fine with that.
I know him mostly from The Tudors, which he was great in, and playing a character closer in temperament to Sarek. I think he'll do well in the role. The implication I'm getting is that he isn't on board ship at least initially, so maybe he's more someone who Burnham talks to remotely, or who becomes involved following the events of the pilot.
