Enterprise A, Salcombe and Reliant

Hello everyone!

I've been wondering why hasn't there been any developments in blueprints or additional renders of these new ships? We really want more of them and I don't see where we will get this info from.

 

Is the third ship definitely the Reliant?

 

More like "Reliant" than the Reliant.

 

Because the people in charge of Kelvin Trek sadly do not care about ships at all. They are just machines to drive the plot. There is a large subset of Trek fans who really love the ships, but they never throw us a bone with blueprints. To my knowledge, there have been no official blueprints of any Kelvin Timeline ship, not even the 1701, and we're in 8 years now.

 

There were the cutaways in Popular Mechanics.

That was indeed very nice. But doesn't show the Enterprise-A, the Salcombe or the "Reliant" that the OP asked for.

 

Right, it was in response to someone saying we hadn't seen anything official.

 

Well, that still stands. What @PixelMagic asked for was for official blueprints. After 3 movies and almost 9 years of the Kelvin timeline the only official ship schematics that I can remember are that image above and the small orthos in the Eaglemoss Star Trek Starship Collection magazines. We old fans got a lot of Trek technical manual books in the past which back then were a big part of our fandom. Personally I've spent as much time reading Franz Joseph's Star Fleet Technical Manual, or Johnson's Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, or Sternbach and Okuda's The Next Generation Technical Manual, as I've spent watching actual Trek episodes! Nowadays, with a few exceptions, publications like that are a thing of the past. Although I don't know whose fault it is. Is it the people in charge of the Kelvin movies (who still can't decide the length of the nuEnterprise), is it CBS/Paramount (who are lackluster with Star Trek merchandising in general), or of the publishers (who see there's not much of an audience for these kinds of books anymore).

 

Fair enough that we haven't had anything akin to the manuals of decades past. They're likely holding back on releasing orthographic views in the hope that one day they can make money off of them one day in such a book.

Not sure why such a book doesn't exist, but I'd guess a combination of all the factors you mentioned. I know that licensing the Kelvin movies costs more than CBS' Prime Trek (hence Eaglemoss' Kelvin-timneline starship models having to be extra large and more expensive "specials" to make them financially viable), which probably makes the already small profit margins of such stuff these days vanish entirely.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time until fan renderings of the Salcombe crop up. It's such a cool design!

 

Also, it seems to be two ships at the price of one - the Salcombe shape apparently is also the four-nacelled police drone (?) that, along with three classmates, tries to intercept Krall's formation inside the docking tube...

I agree those sorts of publications seem now to be a thing of the past and it really is a shame. I spent an awful lot of time pouring over those books, especially Mr Scott's Guide but also both of the tech manuals and much later on books like the Ship recognition manuals. The one I missed out on but always flicked through when it was available at my local WH Smiths (UK shop for anyone not from my neck of the woods) was the Enterprise D deckplans, I could never get my parents to spring for that one but then they did pay for the Star Trek Fact files (which we would have been picking up while I was looking over Deck 9) so I can't complain too much.

Now I would be happy with a decent ongoing series of art books like we are offered from the Marvel movie and TV properties. I bought the 2009 one which was ok but I had to send it back as it arrived smashed and Amazon at the time didn't have any replacements.

I think though our best chance is tid bits that the likes of John Eaves put up online, any of the more nerd like magazines and Eaglemoss depending which ships they put out.

 

Indeed, I don't have a very good screen capture of that quick scene but the "police" ships appear to have the same notched saucer the Salcombe has. They appear to be in a different scale though, they seem to be smaller than the Franklin and not that much bigger than the swarm ships.

 

Which one is the "Reliant"? I don't think I've seen anything about that, and the only ship I can think of that it might be referring to is the one passing by in the background at the very beginning of the timelapse sequence, and in that case, I'm as sure as I can be that it's just the Armstrong-type from '09. We see one at the beginning of the film, too, which makes it more likely both in- and out-of-universe.

 

I'm totally reading "Salcombe" as "Slocombe".

 

It looks to me that the Reliant has a secondary hull in place of the Armstrong's middle third nacelle.

 

I figured if anything that Armstrong-esque ship would be the Stargazer NCC-2893, namedropped immediately afterwards over the PA while the Enterprise crew disembark
