Voyager fans.. are you disappointed about Discovery?

Don't you think there's a kind of inverted snobbery that has taken something from the franchise? Like I read what has become an actual criticism that a show called 'Star Trek' might involve going from one star to another in a trekking fashion. So what if it is alien of the week territory which I believe was prevalent in the first outing when it was just Star Trek. In my opinion Next Gen and Voyager nicely combined ongoing aliens with new ones. Did the whole voyages and trekking thing AND we got to know the characters along the way. Checkout all the techno toys the writers could come up with.

Discovery is being called Discovery surely for a reason? I think of a discovery as being new and fresh and I suppose we are to accept that it was new and fresh pre-Original days in that context, even if we know what comes afterwards. It's a disappointment for me I must say, but if it means the producers will come to their senses and get out of the past then I will wait it out AND check it out. I just hope Discovery doesn't lose all its charm and turns into this plodding heavy drama that has to be too much about personal drama and politics. It should be about the setting, about science fiction, technology and yes, aliens. That is what makes 'Star Trek' different.

It also should be about optimism, which is Star Trek at its core.

Also, Discovery can be set in the era it is and still do all these things:
-Voyaging
-Trekking
-Character development
-Techno toys

I hope so because I feel like Star Trek and Doctor Who have been part of my DNA since I got DNA. I would support Discovery in my insignificant corner of the galaxy if it keeps the dream alive.

My main issue is that it will only be on cbs all access which you will have to pay for.

You do realize you've always paid for Trek in one fashion or another? I have no issue with $5.99 a month for new Trek. I just dropped nearly $50 each on the Roddenberry Vault on Blu-Ray and Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack LP.

Yeah $6 won't break me but it's the principal of it.

It's a little odd that you were watching them in utero, but I applaud your loyalty.
Star Trek is action adventure at it's core, with a trickle of optimism on occasion,
It's a combination of the two, but your point is valid, and I should have stated that. Thank you :)

The principle of supporting Star Trek with your money?
VOY and ENT were on a cable channel, so it was paid for one way or the other.

I can't say I'm disappointed as I've yet to see even an official trailer for it yet let alone an episode. Not really that bothered about it being a prequel to be perfectly honest either personally speaking.

Like Bry Sinclair said ''So long as the writing is good and the characters are fully explored then I couldn't care less what timeframe Discovery is set it''.

It seems greedy of them when they could have used other services like Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, or just air it on tv. I'll watch the first episode on tv when (if) it airs, then if i like it I'll find some free way to watch it

Isn't that what companies do? Sorry, I'm not going to be mad at a company for trying to branch out in to a new market.

I have no problem if people don't want to subscribe, but it's just odd to me that the idea of supporting Star Trek financially in a new way (which has been done in the past) is so reprehensible.

I grew up watching free TV with commercials paying for the program. I'd gladly go back to that setup again and put up with the commercials.

I might be willing to "invest" if what they were doing was something that semed appealing to me. So far I have no interest in this show. Just like with JJ trek i wil not throw money at something just because it says star trek

Which is fair enough. That's the whole idea behind the service is the company taking more ownership of their product and allowing people to decide to buy it or not buy it.
