Should they have monkeys on Discovery?

Do any of these count?

Is this just your random head canon, or is there some grounds in the actual shows (or heck, I'll even allow books or comics) for your reason for thinking this?

As for the monkey, no, please. But I wouldn't mind seeing an Alfa 177 dog, again. As someone's pet. NOT as a crewperson. :D

Just my own personal head canon lol.

I want Starfleet Dolphins like the Enterprise D had.
The USS Discovery looks like it has plenty of room inside.

Although I do question what a dolphin would need with a uniform?

As a pet, what is wrong with space dogs?

Ah yes, the top three questions of Star Trek:
  1. What does God need with a starship?
  2. Why does Satan need a robot?
  3. Why do dolphins need uniforms?
If there are going to be pets on board, what about a snake?

First Officer Burnham's younger bother Spritle is onboard, Spritle has a monkey named Chim-Chim.

When Burnham leaves the ship in a shuttle craft, Spritle and Chim-Chim often hide in the shuttle's "trunk."

The Captain should have this dog as his pet...

...and he should be called Chewy, just to annoy Star Wars fans.
The Captain: "Chewy, here boy. Sit! Fetch! Good boy!" :rommie:

Or what about Dinosaurs? They have time travel in Star Trek so anything is possible. Or they could be from another world.

Snakes on a spaceship does sounds like a really good idea for a movie

Wait, there were dolphins on the Enterprise D?!

Yup.

Enterprise-D were originally to have been referenced in TNG: "Relics". In the first draft script of that outing, Geordi La Forge remarked to Montgomery Scott, "Wait until you see the dolphins." However, that statement, in the final draft of the script as well as the final edit of the installment, became, "Wait until you see the Holodeck." [1]

I guess they thought that as Scott had brought two big humpbacks (one pregnant) aboard the Bounty, seeing dolphins on the Enterprise-D wouldn't amaze him as much as the holodeck.

Yes, references are made to them in a couple of episodes but they were never seen on screen as they did not have the budget for it. There is a mention of cetacean ops in 'Yesterdays Enterprise", a mention of an aquatics lab in "Genesis" and a direct reference to dolphins in the episode "The Perfect Mate".

The ship blueprints shows where they were located, decks 13 and 14 if I remember correctly.

Memory Alpha notes:

"The Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual gives further information about the cetaceans aboard Galaxy-class starships, stating they (a mixed group of Bottlenose dolphins and Takaya's whales) are actually crewmembers and form a guidance and navigation consultation team. These cetaceans are elite specialists in navigation, and Starfleet consults them on suggested system upgrades. The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D Blueprints also show several large cetacean tanks within the saucer section."

How do we know the dolphins on the TNG Enterprise were of the animal variety? What if they were, actually Dan Marino and Don Shula clones? I know cloning is supose to illegal in the 24th century but maybe they had been cloned by those alien minors also on the ship during "The Perfect Mate", which is the ep we first learn about them, and had been used to help the minors do manuel labor?

Totally deserved. People shouldn't hold monkeys as pets in a household. They are wild animals. Not domesticated over countless generations like dogs and cats.

Sure, they're wild animals today, but in Gene Roddenberry's future, monkeys have evolved past flinging feces at visiting Vulcan ambassadors. They still need to work a bit on not furiously masturbating in front of the Orions, but they're making progress damn it.
