The Expanse season 2

Are these spoilers from the book?
Speculation, mostly. The series has already deviated far enough from the book as to be almost a parallel universe. I only mention Nguyen because he's Erinwright's pet war hawk and they've already escalated things by shooting down Mars' black ops ship, so the next logical step is for Erinwright to send the fleet in to try and snatch Ganymede out of Mars' hands.

And the monster fight in the Roci is hardly a spoiler at this point; I didn't even think they'd actually DO it until I saw the exterior view with the cargo door torn open.

So spoiler tag it then, because you just contradicted your own point. The story is not that different, and book informed speculation should certainly be spoiler tagged! (IMO)

If something happens in the books and is skipped, odds are that it was just rearranged and could be moved to a later point. Play it safe, for everyone's benefit.

I estimate a length (or height) ;) of 80-100 meters.

I'm sure the show's design people worked this stuff out when they drew the Roci / Tachi up, but I'd always figured the ship had some TARDIS-like capacity. But really, I think we're mostly spoiled by the TrekWars / almost ALL sci-fi that has ships way longer than they are tall, which itself just figures into how we humans are designed to perceive the world. If you figure that what we see in any given set of the Rocinante is pretty much EVERYTHING on that deck - like the crew quarters, the galley, the airlock, and the bridge (which is technically two decks), things make a whole lot more sense stacking together.

Additional: Full deck plans, awesome! Doesn't quite match what we see on the actual ship, though.

Only if I'm the only person on this entire forum who actually watches the teasers for the next episode. The fight on the Roci was hinted at in the fucking previews. :vulcan:

Matches the book version, but not the TV version. I'm again noticing that they seem to be stuck with using larger, more spacious interiors than they should ever really need and I'm 99% sure that has something to do with the logistics of filming (e.g. lighting, sound design and camera work). They probably figured they couldn't get the right camera angles and/or panning motion that they wanted on a set that was as cramped as they original design implied, and building the set with movable/removable panels would have been cost prohibitive, so they simply built up the interiors to be large enough to contain all of the crew that was needed for a particular scene while also giving the camera, boom mic operators, directors, editors and support crew room to maneuver without actually being in the shot. It could also be that they're using larger/cheaper cameras to keep costs down and/or didn't invest in steadicams for some reason.

It was the description of the entire course of events leading up to that as well.

If people haven't seen the eps yet, yes, of course. Some of us wait a few days until we have time to watch it.
Also - and we run into this on the Game of thrones threads too - people talking about the differences between what's in the books and what's on the show can be pretty annoying to those of us who are just trying to enjoy the show. Especially, obviously, if there are spoilers or "hints" at what's going to happen. Maybe a separate thread is in order to discuss the books.

I really think it's silly the extremes some go through with spoiler codes. There will always be someone who hasn't watched the episode yet. Any and every discussion should be in spoiler code just in case. Ridiculous. Those who are behind share some responsibility. If they don't want to be spoiled, they need to be cautious when reading forums. i make sure of this myself.

People take spoiler codes to extremes sometimes.

Though if there's going to be discussions which could lead to spoilers, it's usually marked on the thread thus becoming enter at own risk. However in this thread there's no "spoilers" tag.

You're right

You know, it's weird but I am somehow able to avoid non tagged spoilers on threads for episodes I haven't seen yet.

If you guessed...
magic,
you're correct.

You need to use spoiler codes for information from the books about episodes that have not aired yet. If the episode has aired, spoiler codes aren't necessary.

Everyone's a crybaby when it comes to spoilers, IMO. Granted, I'm sour after everyone lost their shit on me last year just because I hinted that being accurate to the books would mean Thomas Jane would eventually not be the lead.

Still, people are really overly paranoid on the issue of spoilers, and have been for years. I remember back in the BSG forum where some people tried to say episode titles were spoilers. Which sometimes they can be, but the title in question, He That Believeth in Me most certainly was not. I've seen some people try to argue that even saying something like "Season 2, Episode 4" is a spoiler.

Hell, I actively seek spoilers, and have no guilt over giving anything away. And to be honest, spoiler-phobes need to just chill the fuck out when untagged spoilers do get posted. Seriously, watching the show or movie is the biggest spoiler of them all, and if you like the show enough, knowing in advance what's going to happen won't ruin your enjoyment at all. Besides, nearly everything on TV these days is so predictable that even on my first time I can figure out how it's going to end anyway. On a side note, I really can't watch crime procedurals anymore because I can predict who the killer is within the first ten minutes and it's just tedious watching the characters work out what I've already figured out.

I wrote my dissertation on the tenets of drama as seen in teen dramas at Uni - sat through the first two seasons of The OC, Dawsons Creek as well as the handful of episodes of The Mountain, Life As We Know It, Young Americans and then backtracked to Dynasty, Dallas and Melrose Place to show how they cropped up in all primetime soaps. It ruined dramas for me in that vein, as it meant I could predict the plots - and when the shows would end up being cancelled, based on whether they presented certain archetypal characters.

That's a bad attitude to take about it. You only get one chance to view or read something unspoiled. After that first time, there is no chance to read it for the first time again. No chance to wonder what will happen, etc. I'd guess that when you read the book you weren't spoiled and it was nice not knowing what would happen.

If you guys want to discuss the book and how it compares to the TV series, great. Start your own thread! For those of us who are just watching the series and want to talk about the show, let us do that without spoilers! It was even OK when there were spoilers in this thread but with a spoiler code. As far as I'm concerned, there's no problem with that at all.

We can all discuss what we want, with or without spoilers. Let's just do it in separate places, or with spoiler code, and with respect for the others.

Thank you.
