"It's time for the Jedi to end." I wonder whether that means that Luke thinks he's found a better way, a way more in balance between the light and the darkness?
That is very possible. Daisy did explain on the panel that Rey has to deal with her hero (Luke) not meeting her expectations of what she imagined him to be. Clearly, Rey pictured Luke as this legendary, heroic Jedi who will fight against the Dark Side and save the galaxy because of the myth that he has become. When she meets him, she probably finds something else, a man who has given up on heroics and is so disillusioned that he even wants the Jedi to end. That would definitely disappoint her expectations.
I like the scene shot from a distance of the lightsaber exercise on the outcropping of rock on the island. Kind of reminded me of Connor MacLeod and Ramierez in Highlander.
