There are a few clues, including Nichelle's hairstyle. Possibly the actress seen in profile can be identified, but she isn't wearing the awful wig I'm sure they would have fitted her with. It's a toughie.

I cheated a little and therefore think I know which episode they were shooting, to a near-certainty. How about you?

I wondered the same thing when I saw the photo. Google tells me the image originated in the January, 1967 issue of Ebony, in an article about Nichelle Nichols. This means the behind-the-scenes image must be from an episode somewhere in season one. Another behind-the-scenes image in the same article is obviously from “The Man Trap”. So assuming the Ebony photographer didn't visit the set twice, I'd guess the image is also from that episode.

Am I close? :)

Well, I'm also going by the Ebony issue, but I came to a different conclusion. The image from "The Man Trap" was taken in the midst of filming the actual scene, and it has a different look than the ones taken by Ebony's own photographer.

The image at the top left of page 74 was taken for Ebony, though, and it shows Nichelle talking to Gerd Oswald, who directed only "The Conscience of the King" and "The Alternative Factor." It's part of the same photo shoot as the image we're trying to identify, so I'm down to two possibilities.

Wouldn't you know, she wears the same wig and earrings in both episodes.

But "Conscience" was filmed in late September 1966 while "Factor" was filmed in late November. The Ebony issue is dated January 1967, and magazines always dated their issues forward a bit (later than they were produced) to extend their shelf life in stores. The lead time from shooting the on-set photos in September, to preparing the actual article, to dating the issue nominally as January, seems to me about the right spacing these things would have needed. I think the "January" issue was ready to print, or nearly so, by late November when "Factor" was filming.

So I'm saying the wonderful Nichols-Nimoy-Shatner photo is from the set of "The Conscience of the King."

Then who is the cutie sitting down in the foreground? We should be able to identify her even without a potential wig.

it's hard to identify which episode this is from, as far as I'm concerned. But I love the behind the scenes shot. I like looking at those kinds of photos

I'm telling you, that photo shoot included Gerd Oswald, and "The Conscience of the King" is the only episode he directed that was filmed in the proper time frame.
