How is that interesting?I'd be curious to hear the opinions of those who have rated this episode Fair or Poor.
And interesting that on another board I frquent the ratings are 80% Good and only 20% Excellent as compared to here.
They seem to be a touch more critical. How is that interesting?
That's not necessarily good or bad, just a different community. I can be quite critical of fan productions, but I did like this episode from STC, and rated it "Good."They seem to be a touch more critical.
Star Trek Continues has not "outlasted" the Abrams films. What an absurd comparison to make.Liked it would have worked better if it fleshed out the A.I.s backstory/ decent into madness but of course there wasn't time
Interestedly STC continues has outlasted JJtrek
Personally I much prefer STC and look forward to more to come

There is a small board I visit called Treknographics 101. It's a bit more Treknology oriented but, of course, they discuss all kinds of things. What other good boards are there? I always a looking for new things to read and opinions to discuss.
Sure it has,
Don't hold your breath for any more JJtrek films
No, math disagrees with you. "Pilgrim of Eternity" aired in May of 2013, and is currently preparing its last handful of episodes, slated to be released this year, maybe early next year at the latest, for a grand total of about 5 years.Sure it has,
Don't hold your breath for any more JJtrek films
Exactly this.First movie came out in 2009, Beyond came out last year. For those playing the home game, that's 7 years. STC will have ran 5 years by the time the final episode premieres. Even without knowing when the fourth JJ film comes out, basic math shows the JJ-verse has been around longer.
I'd be curious to hear the opinions of those who have rated this episode Fair or Poor.
Star Trek Beyond was still one of the biggest hits in 2016 for Paramount, despite making less money than the previous movie. There will most definitely be a sequel.Sure it has,
Don't hold your breath for any more JJtrek films
Decent summation. I was left waffling between a Good and Fair rating. On the one hand I, too, enjoyed watching it yet I was also bothered by all the TNG familiarity. What might have been an interesting wrinkle (although it wouldn't change the essence of the story itself) is if we learned that the older Kirk was indeed from a parallel universe where that Enterprise crew failed to retrieve him.I gave it fair ....great production value and fair acting. I enjoy watching it, please let me stress that.
But STC stories feel like a mishmash of so many other episodes, and it is so heavily influenced by TNG which is not bad, but not my cup of Earl Grey. TOS told me what time it was, TNG would tell me how the clock was made.
IMO TOS Spock would not say quantum string in 1970, but parallel (maybe alternate) universe and no one would say "huh" ( looking at you Riker) which would open the door for Data to educate us all on the quantum string theory, and Picard nods, because he already knows and then makes a quick reference to something like this that happened years ago.
I would of been happier without the TNG Riker transporter accident, maybe this Alt Kirk was created when the Defiant phased out the first time.

Two simple things: Kirk duplicated by a sci/tech phenomenon and being tied directly to the Defiant and "The Tholian Web" makes it feel too much like been-there-done-that.
If she had done it fifty years ago in a hypothetical TOS fourth season you would have a case. But she did this today after it was already old hat in TNG and other sci-fi. So, sadly for her, it comes across as borrowing ideas from something lots of people are already well familiar with. Even if she had not watched anything of TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT in all these years it's hard to imagine no one in STC's team recognized these very familiar elements given they are so versed in Trek lore, write stories and characters in a TNG style, include references to post TOS productions and even use TNG style technobbable.I somewhat disagree because it was the original writer who connected the dots and not some story from someone not intimately connected with the original story. To me, that makes a difference. Kind of like David Gerrold doing a tribble story after TTWT's; it fits.
Dem's fight words partner !Oh, and David Gerrold did revist tribbles in TAS and that was a pointless effort. Ditto with "Trials And Tribble-ations."
