Rogue One coming to blu-ray/DVD April 4th

Just preordered the 3D steelbook from Best Buy. I was leaning towards the Walmart exclusive K2SO packing. It looks cool but when I saw it was just a cardboard cutout I decided to pass. Looking forward to movie night next week!

I'm in the regrettable position of not knowing whether anyone's planning to buy this as a birthday (4/3) gift for me and consequently feeling like I can't pre-order it. :|

Every movie has deleted scenes. I don't think any movie has ever used every single scene that was shot.

It's not always quite that straight forwards. There's a difference between a deleted scenes and unused footage. The former is a scene, or chunk of a scene that conveys some information (plot, character, mood, whatever) that's removed before the final edit for whatever reason.
The latter is more broadly anything that's shot that they don't end up using. That includes every take of every scene other than the one they used, coverage (especially in multi-camera shots) second unit work (think, establishing shots, closeups of hands picking up props, that sort of thing) and of course alternate scenes that were re-shot, or filmed multiple ways with the intent of finding it in the edit (this is why some movies have several alternate endings.)

The point is, it seems that Rogue One has a lot of unused footage, but it seems not very many (if any) deleted scenes. Mostly just pieces of scenes. A line here and there maybe.

What I would like to see is a nice montage of the "just because it looked pretty" footage that Edwards shot and which ended up in the various teasers.

Some BTS footage was posted on the Star Wars YouTube channel about the U-Wing design. I am just blown away by the amount of artwork and design. They went through 781 configurations to get to the final design of the ship. Not sure if that's standard but it sounds like a lot.

^Most of those iterations seem to be just little thumbnail sketches that take about 2 mins. They're mostly about exploring different silhouettes.

I'm sure it won't all go to waste as no doubt some of those designs can be adapted for other uses somewhere down the line.

I highly doubt it. It's just not usual to go from shooting to screen without losing scenes. I'm not saying it can't happen, just that I don't buy it for a massive film like this, especially with that massive reshoot.

That said, I knew this release wouldn't have any. "Called it" as they say. ;)

I sure hope so. Some of Doug's work from TPM is just amazing, and you watch the BTS and it could be used to design multiple films. Same here, and I enjoy seeing the design process.

Do all the Bluray editions have the same extra features content or do some vary depending on where you buy it from?

I didn't realize there was a difference, but I did just remember one deleted scene we know about. There was a whole sequences that wasn't in the final movie with Jyn and Cassian running across the beach from one building to another on Scarif, that even appeared in the trailer.

The comic adaptation started today, and the preview on Comixology already gives us a glimpse of a new scene with Bodhi and Galen.

I demand unused b-roll footage of that Florida keys planet so I can just stare at the beach for minutes on end.

Got mine last night and watched right away... I got befuddled when I put the blu-ray in the player and it sounded like it was getting chewed up... Turns out in my haste to pop it in and watch, I didn't realize the bonus disc was packaged directly under the blu-ray and put both of them in the player.. D'oh!!

I found that CGI Tarkin and Leia were both better looking on a small screen compared to a movie theater.. Seemed to move more naturally.. I thought the same thing about Tron: Legacy... Flynn/Clu looked demonstratively better on a smaller screen.

You probably already know this but for anyone who doesn't, originally the archive and the transmitter were in 2 separate locations, and they had to run from one to the other across the beach. This was streamlined to one building in the final film. So the beach footage doesn't fit into the final film. I'm not sure deleted scene is the right term for that.

Yes, but how did the movie sync up with the bonus disc?

You also get an expansion on the scene of Jyn waking up in jail (her cellmate asking her if she wants any warning before he kills her), and Bodhi's defection to Saw's forces.
