The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

Ooh! I LOVE figures! I mostly have Star Wars figures right now, but I'd like to grow my Trek collection. Those 1:12 Collective figures look cool. I wish the Art Asylum...excuse me...Diamon Select TOS figures were still available at retail prices.

I should be receiving TOS Bridge Chairs that I modeled in 3D and had printed in the next couple of days in 1:10 and 1:12 (7" and 6").

I can't wait to take part in this thread. :bolian:
Hiya and welcome! We can always use new people with fresh ideas in here! I only started to collect the 7" Diamond Select figures about two years ago, and there were new packs done at the time. Two-packs of Kirk/Uhura, Sulu/Bones and Spock/Scotty. These should retail for a fairly normal price still. Maybe have a look for those?

The 1:12 Mezco ones are a bit more expensive but come with real clothes and lots of accessories. Well worth in my opinion.

Of course the holy grail are the 1:6 scale QMX ones, from my picture with the dogs. Kirk, Spock and Bones out so far, more to come.

Looking forward to see your chair! I did download a model of one a while ago but having never worked with 3D prints - how does it work? If I give it to a print shop for printing - how will they know the right size? I would like it in 1:6.

Thanks!

I'm not really into 1:6-scale, more 1:12 or 1:10, though those are some pretty nice figures! I'd love to get the 1:12 Collective crew as soon as I can afford them as they come out.

Thanks for the suggestions of getting the two-packs. I'd like to do that.

The chairs arrived and I've taken some images, but I need to get them off of my phone and on my PC.

As for printing 3d models, first, they need to be in a format that a printer can use, generally STL. What format is it in right now?

Most places that do 3d printing require that you give them the model in the exact size that they'll print it. For that, there may be online tools, I don't know. If not, then you need to have a program capable of working with whatever 3d format it is, resizing it, and converting it to STL (or a couple more that I can't remember right now).

Barring that, I JUST uploaded a 1:6-scale TOS Burke chair today. :D You may know someone with a printer that can do it cheaper than Shapeways, though.

They are still in need of a good paint job, but here we go!

That's pretty awesome. Who did you have make those, and, if I may ask, what's their pricing?
I'd love to have these for all my Playmates 4.5" Trek figures from the '90s.

EDIT: typo :scream:

Those 3D molded chairs from the TOS Enterprise look fantastic! I also love the 6" Stormtrooper Han Solo and TWOK Admiral Kirk landing party figures. I don't think I've ever seen that Admiral Kirk before. What line is he from if you haven't already said so and I didn't see it?

That TWOK Regula 1 Kirk is by Diamond Select. They made a lot of TWOK variants on Kirk alone.

What he said. :)

And thank you!

I missed the TWOK line when it first came out, and I've only been able to pick up two of the Regula 1 Kirks and no others from that series. Saavik is worth hundreds, if not thousands, now, depending on where you look.

Which brings up another of my ideas...which will, sadly, remain unspoken...for now.

I have most of the DST TOS era figures and that was a bit tough to get. I'd like to get the TWOK figures at some point. I'm surprised DST didn't do more for the 50th anniversary. Let alone re-release figures. They need to do that.

I don't think it's dying but DST are focusing on other things. Classic Ghostbusters seems to be their main focus at the moment.
