Daleks up first again!

Apparently the first episode of Series 10 will feature the diabolical pepper pots.

Moffat really likes to get the Daleks out of the way early doesn't he!

Well it seems likely it will be if the Cybermen are going to be the ultimate villains from the finale? (I don't know if that's correct)

Surprised no one has picked up on the fact that there'll be a mid season 3 parter!

How do you know there's a three-parter? From what little we do know, it's hard to tell if there are even any two-parters.

Thanks!

Sounds promising. I hope they're able to deliver. Moffat and Harness are mixed bags, but Whithouse has always written good if not great episodes.

Whithouse has certainly done some great episodes, though I found A Town Called Mercy somewhat lacking. The sea base story with the ghosts in season 9 was an odd one, part 1 was awesome, part 2 not so great.

This three parter seems it could go either way. It sounds like they're trying to be high concept with it, though hopefully they don't try too hard to outdo themselves. The involvement of Harness doesn't thrill me much. Kill the Moon and the Islamophobia allegory with the Zygons aren't exactly high points of the Capaldi era.

With three different writers it's going to make a big difference whether they play it as a fully three-part story, or three linked stories, like last year.

I suspect three linked stories, with maybe cliffhangers linking each to the next one. The article mentions Harness's episode specifically features UNIT, which presumably means the others don't.

Could be more of an E-space trilogy or more like a Key to Time sort of collection of stories, then. I'm good with that rather than the hit-and-miss two-parters from last series or the more traditional clues-sprinkled-through-the-episodes thing that sets the bar a bit too high for a decent payoff, especially when the payoff is a clever play on words that feels way too manufactured to be enjoyable (the Hybrid, one-will-die, Trenzalore, etc.).

Where in the articles does it say Harness' story features UNIT? I don't see that mention.

Yeah, I can see that being the case, which would explain the different writers.

That's odd, I could have sworn I saw that earlier, along with a picture of the UNIT soldiers seen in the trailer (or rather soldiers wearing actual blue UN Peacekeeper helmets) with a caption saying it was from Harness's episode. Now I'm thinking it's clear I was reading a different article, but I can't even find that now. Well, this is embarrassing.

Hmm, looking at the writing credits for the season for the first time. Not too thrilled about Harness and Whithouse. Harness hasn't done a good episode yet and Whithouse's only good episode was School Reunion (which was basically only memorable for SJS). Jamie Matheson did well on "Flatline" and not really on his other two episodes. Sarah Dollard's "Face the Raven" was clunky, but I suspect that was more because she had to set it up for the second part, so I would like to see what else she does. It'll be cool to have Rona Munro back. I have a soft spot for the Seven/Ace era and I liked Survival well enough. Oh, and the guy who did "In the Forest of the Night" (worst use of a Blake line for an unworthy work, ever) is back. His wiki page says that he gets awards and stuff. Maybe he'll do a good job this time.

You didn't like "The God Complex" or "The Girl Who Waited"? I think those two are among the strongest episodes during Moffat's tenure.

The Girl Who Waited was actually written by Tom MacRae, who also wrote Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steele in season 2. But yes, both it and The God Complex were outstanding episodes.
