Looks like the Klingon Sarcophagus ship might be very real!

Whilst researching it I realised that one of the Klingon Sarcophagus ship illustrations from last year is almost identical to the set being designed in the recent teaser trailer! If some fans were up in arms about the Klingon redesign then what will they think of this ship?!

I don't think that is the main klingon ship/redesign. I think that is an ancient vessel, maybe it has something to do with the Hur'q invasion? We will se, but I don't think those are the redesigned ships. I think it is too much of a departure from with what we are used to get such a redesign.

Looking forward to the new Klingons.

While viewing the analysis of the klingon ship I was reminded of the Resurrection Ship from BSG. Probably way too much of a stretch though.

Speculation - yes. Wild - how so? Clearly based on observations that I think are very solid.
It makes the assumption that it is a Klingon ship. If that is not true, then the whole theory could potentially fall apart. So, yeah, it feels a bit wild.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

We noticed and discussed that correspondence between the design drawings and the Klingon sets back at the end of January when the BTS video was released.

I pointed out elsewhere that I heard from a reliable source that the production art is in fact real, but it has since been changed. That doesn't mean some aspects weren't retained though.

I've heard some people mention a Klingon Sarcophagus ship. Haven't seen or heard anything about it before.

But that looks like some of the concept art for STiD.

One of the production designs out there carries the label "Klingon Sarcophagus ship". That's where it comes from, and it's why people are hoping it potentially explains weird looking "klingons".

True; although there are similarities in style between the Klingon Sarcophagus ship and the inside illustration, particularly with the 'stained glass window' look. I'm wondering if this might be a different sect of Klingons, maybe an old religious sect... or even a group of Klingons that are distant cousins, rather like how Vulcans and Romulans are related?

Yup; probably an initial concept that has since gone through several rounds of drafts. I'm sure the final design will be much more identifiable as being of Klingon origins...

Is there any reason to believe the leaked photo is actually Klingons? They are completely unrecognizable. If someone posts a picture of a taco on the internet and hashtags it #hamburger I'm not inclined to think I don't know a hamburger when I see one.

That is a possibility - if I remember correctly, someone followed up with the original poster of the image and he was unable to confirm if they were Klingons, he just assumed they were. But... I mean... what other brownish-red skinned armor-clad aliens with ridged skulls could they be?

He points out some pretty solid similarities between the set under construction and the Klingon Sarcophagus Ship design.
There's also some strong similarities between the Sarcophagus Ship and the leaked "new Klingon" armor.
I think it's extremely unlikely that two different groups in DSC would share such a similar design aesthetic, it's just not the way televisual story telling works.
It's possible that the designs were repurposed for some other race, but "Sarcophagus Ship" sounds like a very specific idea.
I think at this point it makes sense to assume that the leaked picture is of some type of Klingons.

The use of 'ancient Klingons' might be a great story device too. The story involves, to some extent, the need to unify the different factions of the Klingon council. What better way than for the Discovery to present Q'onos with rediscovered 'original' Klingons to unite the houses together...

God, I hope so. That looks awfully fancy for a 'modern' Klingon ship of the pre-TOS era. One of those sketches almost looks like a 40K Imperial ship.

Though, ancient Klingons would certainly be interesting, and I don't think something like that has been tried before.
