Contest: ENTER SF&F Avatar Contest: Going Apeshit!

Kai "the spy"

Apes are big this year, from "Kong: Skull Island" coming to theatres this weekend, to the Gorilla invasion of Central City on "The Flash" recently, and the upcoming "War for the Planet of the Apes" this summer, and several other examples. And there's been certainly no shortage of apes (and monkeys, I'll allow them, as well) in scifi and fantasy, whether as heroes, anti-heroes, villains, or just comic relief.

So, as you might have guessed from that introduction (and the thread title), the theme this time around is primates.

Rules as usual, 200x200 pixels and/or 1 Mb max. size. One entry per user, for now, I may allow more depending on how this goes.

Here's my entry:

So, let's get to monkey business.

I don't know why more people aren't entering. I've already entered, but here is a list of possible entries -- feel free, anybody, to use them:

* Guenter (the intelligent monkey from "Futurama")

* Sometyhing from this scene from "The Simpsons":

* The monkey from "Return of the Pink Panther"

* And for those who like obscure entries that will lose: the pae in the zoo that gets ahold of the Nuclear Football in an episode of "Seven Days".

Yeah, I mean, giant apes alone have provided material from eight theatrical movies, one animated direct-to-video feature, and three animated series, and that's just the King Kong productions.

Do these count as SF&F?

Right, they are not. Come to think of it, neither is the Evil Monkey from Family Guy. I'm sorry, @tharpdevenport , but I'll have to ask you for a different entry.

Some further examples of apes and monkeys in SFF:

- DC's Ultra-Humanite in his White Gorilla body
- the ape-like Black Hole Aliens from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
- pretty much the entire Planet of the Apes franchise
- Konga
- Blip from Space Ghost
- Mighty Joe Young
- the two chimps and the orang-utan from Link
- Lon Chaney's were-ape from Bride of the Gorilla
- the gorillas from Congo
- Gleek from the Super Friends
- Dr. Ivo's robot monkeys from Young Justice

I would even allow Muffit II from the original BSG, as he was played by a chimpanzee.

The Evil Monkey is an animated monkey (fantisy) that also talks. I'm not sure how much more fantisy a talking animated monkey needs to be. Yeah, he rarely talked, but he did.

I lost track which subforum I was in, when I sugested the others.

Animation does not equal fantasy. The talking, however, ... Let's say, I'll allow the Evil Monkey from that episode where he talked, "Hannah Banana".

Btw, will Tarzan be considered fantasy?

@Orac , what are your second and third entries from?

@tharpdevenport , I've decided that there are enough scifi/fantasy elements in Family Guy, so I'll allow your Evil Monkey after all. Sorry for the whole mess I've created.
