What didn't you like about NJO Jacen? (Personally, he was always a character I could take or leave; either just another young Jedi character or a kinda lame Kylo Ren-like character before TFA came and made one that was actually good.)

I didn't like the philosophy Vergere was spouting that he took to. He also became extremely arrogant, thinking his stupid philosophy was right and just generally acting like an ass. You're right about him kind of being a proto-Kylo, but not done well. It got worse later, Darth Caedus was terrible even if I ignore the fact that he killed my favorite SW character in a pointless shock death for stupid reasons, and it all started with NJO. Before that I thought he was ok, a bit generic and not as interesting as Jaina or Anakin but not bad. but, really, once he met Vergere he rapidly went from ok if a bit bland to irritaiting to infuriating.

Troy Denning retconned her into one because he either didn't like or couldn't grasp Traitor.

Okay, fair enough that the Sith angle was a retcon, although in the pre-retcon NJO books I read, Vergere honestly came across a morally dubious at best, so when I learned about the retcon, my thought was that it made a lot of sense. Your mileage may vary.

Oh and to say Kylo is better than Jacen is like saying Doghide is better than Gallagher's Steak.

Its a truly ridiculous and stupid opinion.

As a wise Jedi Master once said: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." Opinions on characters are up for subjectivity, and, on those grounds, I never found Jacen to be that interesting a character. Also, both stories dealt with their respective "sacrifices" of a family member to further their development in the dark side, but I thought Kylo killing his father had more impact on him personally than Jacen killing his aunt; it's a darker act, esp. given that Jacen was essentially acting in self defense as opposed to rejecting an offer of forgiveness.

You can form legitimate reasons to prefer one over the other; the only truly ridiculous and stupid opinion is saying that someone's opinion is stupid just because they don't agree with you.

Okay, that makes sense to me.

I didn't care for that death, either.

I personally thought that Jacen was more interesting as a Sith then as a Jedi, but he was never a character I was that invested in in the first place.

Honestly, completely ignoring that terrible death, him being a Sith could have been interesting. But by the time he went evil he was already an unlikable, arrogant whiner so I just didn't particularly want to read about him anymore. He wasn't a villain I "loved to hate", he was a villain I barely tolerated because of who he'd been the last few years before his turn.

Fair enough. I guess if you thought he was awful, I though the character was too mediocre to get worked up one way or the other.

Traitor isn't some complex thing that people are too stupid to grasp. Its portrayal of the Force and the Jedi is incompatible with Lucas' version.
Okay you admit it was a retcon some progress even if that statement of yours is true which is itself a questionable proposition then I must say in all honesty Traitor's version is better than Lucas.

Really people who hate the NJO are some of the most crass, stupid, deluded, arrogant, and downright sinister percentage of the human race.

It is that GOOD and they are that BAD!!!
Wow, just wow. It's one thing to like something, but you're going a waaaaay over the top here.
It's fine to like something, but there's really no need to be insulting to people don't share that opinion.

The real tragedy is that people don't share my opinion.

I tend to agree about Jacen, which is why the NJO just petered out for me. It was quite frustrating to not feel engaged with the character, and then stack on the ridiculous deaths, the fall to the Dark Side, and I just gave up. No investment there.

Thus far, everything I saw after that death scene left me with no compelling reason continue with the NJO. I have yet to be convinced otherwise.

That's honestly how I feel about the post-NJO books in general. I've been finding Disney's take on the same era much more enjoyable.

I did like the final NJO book to be fair. IMHO, if you got as far as you did, you might as well see it to the end, but I wouldn't blame you if you didn't; a lot of those books in that series felt like filler.

If there's one good thing about Disney taking over Star Wars, it's that Troy Denning seems to have been kicked out of the inner circle of novel writers.

With how much Disney is putting out in terms of content, I think I'll lean that way. Pre prequel and Clone War material still interests me, but nothing else for the NJO or beyond that.

It's funny to me that as much grief TFA gets, they borrowed several elements from Legends EU that apparently are just fine in book form, but not film form. Just fascinates me how the medium can affect opinions. Not sure if that's just me and my experience or others have noticed that as well.

You sound like a child.

You sound like a child.
That's such a funny assertion you know I mean really.

Because I'm not-children don't vote, drink champagne, have informed discussions about RL issues with their elders, go through various depressive crises, contemplate their purpose in life and the world, and walk the straight and narrow.

In fact I'm probably more mature than you.

I'm not the one going around trying to assert their opinion on everyone else. Acting like their opinion is the only one that is true. That is what a child does on the playground. Not a grown adult.

I am also old enough to drink and vote. Age does not equal mental maturity.

I don't care if you think NJO is better. That is your opinion, I do not agree with it, but I'm not going to aggressively tell you it is wrong.

You obviously didn't read the other things I have done or been through. But whatever.

When it comes down to it I'll admit I like the idea of having my opinion imposed on everyone else. Freedom of thought for me and not for thee-I'll freely admit my hypocrisy in that regard.

For some reason, I thought of this:
