Name your favorite TOS alien

Do you mean those funky orange plastic 'body armor' thingees?

My assessment did include those, actually. They look like they're part of some Holiday décor, or some shit. But I hate everything Elaan wore, save for the blue dress, when she was on the bridge, with the necklace, and the orange one she wore in sickbay. Petri's outfits were pure shite. If over-the-top is what they wanted in the costuming for this show, they hit the mark on it, that's for sure. But it really looked like they trotted out the cheapest, cheesiest costumes they had in the back ... I felt bad for the actors, really.

Yes, my money would have been on Elaan as being able to hold her own physically against Petri, but none of us know what Petri might have been capable of either. Just because someone is perceived as weak doesn't mean that s/he truly is. It was just the image of him getting the ruby slipper in there even for a few seconds before she continued her combat against him that tickled my funny bone. Something tells me we wouldn't want to imagine where the hapless slipper finally ended up!
Oh, I didn't know you were female -- hello, there, chickie! You can bet your sweet bippy that Petri was plenty pissed at Elaan, alright ... personally, I would've just laughed at her shit. But most people do take things to heart much easier than we expect they might, don't they? And you bring up a very good point about not knowing his strength. I mean ... his people and hers were, in fact warring with eachother, with neither side assured of victory. Which is how her mission on the Enterprise even came to be, in the first place, of course. In short ... Petri might've been more of a Man than he initially came across to me. Either way ... as I've noted previously, he's still a hoot.

... A Space Hoot!

Horta is my favourite, would like to have someone in an Horta costume shuffling round at a convention as a change from all the bipeds.

Cool. I like the story of how Janos Prohaska made the Horta costume and showed it to Gene Coon. He was so impressed with the creature that he wrote Devil in the Dark.

I thought The Horta started out as The Mikie from the final Outer Limits episode, The Probe, my Lord Beard?

I think you are correct, IIRC. Gene Coon didn't write the script until after he saw the creature though. It took him only 3 days to complete the story!

Funny thing is I was reading a passage in Robert H.Justman's book today and came across the information after I posted! Janos was busy touting for work with the team when he suddenly became a chimp and attacked one of the secretaries! Later on after he apologized he came back and tried again to win a role but Gene Coon said "Do we have to put up with this," and then Janos brought in the costume, shuffled his way around the room like a melted pizza monster, gave birth to an egg, came back for the said egg moments later and then shuffled out of the room! Gene Coon then said hire him and left the room and wrote Devil in The Dark! :ack:

OMG, I can't believe that because I have always said the Horta looked like a giant shaggy, pepperoni pizza! Now I'm hungry for one!

Pepperoni? Nah, more like an eggy mushroom pizza! :nyah:
Naw, it looked more like the tomato meatloaf my mother used to make.

I guess most of us think the Horta looked like food -- we just disagree on what kind of food!

I liked the Kelvan. Although they were in humanoid form, there other form that we never got to see sounded pretty awesome. "Immense begins with a hundred tentacles."
