Around 1974/75 it appears he began to be noticed by casting. And you could see his acting was maturing. His small roles began to get more substance and he was bringing more to them. You could see he was now 'working' his craft he'd spent years learning. Learning the entertainment Business's politics & viewer ebbs & flows which are all part-and-parcel of the Business. A world rife with rejection, full of possible missteps, while he and others like himself compete for the same roles as they keep honing their craft, filling their resumes, working to get work, working to pay the rent.
He saw himself beginning to get call-backs for returning characters.

1978 brought him 'that' role. The role actors work for. The one that finally spotlights them.
Battlestar Galactica
Which was the lead-in to 'the' series where he entered the world of TV History.... Battlestar Galactica
He played the iconic character of Capt. Apollo who would stand for some against any other version. He'd made his bones. He'd worked the worked. Payed his dues. And became part of TV History forever.
Even after his series ended after too short a time for many fans the supporting and guest roles given him were now roles for actors rather than filler characters. And came Dynasty, Hotel, then came Santa Barbara! And he rocked it.
Through it all he was our Apollo. He was always our Apollo. It seems that he held Battlestar Galactica close too. That it was never far away from his heart, from his interest, from his goals, From his from his planning
This is a man who was not hesitant to pay his dues to get where he wanted to go.
Then he returned to us in the nu incarnation of Battlestar and once again we Apollo original fans loved him. His role in the nu, grittier, darker. And our Apollo, our Richard Hatch, in the continuing world of the Battlestar Galactica again.
He was an actor. He worked for his living. He had his passions in his work. He had his ideas, his dreams.
He did the thing most actors writers directors & producers work their whole lives and never come close to.... he made real entertainment history.
'He' was Captain Apollo.

A real shame. By today's standards 71 really isn't that old. Whilst my childhood was dominated by Star Wars (sorry, Trek came later) it is the original Battlestar Galactica that always makes me nostalgic probably due BSG being on every week whereas SW was on once and that was it. Always reminds me of my family being together before divorce made a mess of everything.
I hope it's not disrespectful to suggest that his involvement and relationship with Peters gave Axanar a validity it would've lacked otherwise, even more so than the other Sci-fi alumni.

To be fair, based on the quote, it's the Axa-marines not Peters connecting the lawsuit, Axanar and Richard Hatch. I'm not saying it's beyond the guy to nudge people in that direction but he hasn't actually posted anything like that yet.

I think you may be giving him too much credit. I don't believe he has anything damning at all but I believe he's enjoyed the attention and faux-kudos he's received because some folk think he has. Is he hanging on to it because he thinks the information has some cash value? In a years time, irrespective of What Alec Does Next, no one will care.
Where were the nukes in the depo? The bombshells? Meh, another just Axanar charlatan.
In the beginning I did. Now though? Not so much. I think he's still got a bit of the ego that was on full display when he was still one of LFIM's acolytes.
Mr. Hatch stuck it out as a friend of fans without burdening any of them with his suffering. A mark of a truly decent person.
Every impression I have had from what Alec has written or said suggested to me that Mr. Hatch was being generous to Alec like he was reputed to have been with everyone. The Axanar camp had better be very light trying to trade in that generosity as if it were some sort of profound endorsement. It can't possibly play well.
