If they are going with beige operations division (as it was in the pilot), maybe the shoulder stripes are the division color? There are either single color, they have changed the color assignments again, or they grabbed the wrong department insignia for the promo shot (Engineering on blue).

The CageThey could just be going with variations of the colors in "The Cage." There are three colors in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - gold, tan and grey/blue - but were there two or three in "The Cage?"
Agreed.....or maybe a field/away team jacket......but mighty shiny for that. Probably dress uniform.Looks like a dress uniform

Interesting how it actually has the break from the logo. TOS-esque ship insignias confirmed?
And yet..... I love both canon AND ENTBest to accept upfront that hardcore canonistas aren't going to love what they see in Discovery, any more than they did Enterprise.
Just like the Klingons. TMP came out with what the Klingons really looked like all along ...
I suspect this is a dress uniform - similar to the real world dress/formals but... ARGH! Whatever it is, first glimpse and it looks really bloody good!
Or maybe the "missing link" between the Enterprise blue uniforms and The Cage jackets/uniforms.
