Alistair Reynold's "Diamond Dogs" - the play! - in Chicago

Sgt. Sacrament

Certainly a few people here are fans of British hard sci-fi Alistair Reynolds. I just learned on his website that his novella "Diamond Dogs" has been made into a play that is playing right now in Chicago at The House Theatre - here's a link. I wish I was close to Chicago to see it, although it's a dark, dark story. Has anyone by chance seen it?

(FWIW, I have no relation to Reynolds, or The House Theatre, or whoever publishes Reynolds's books, I'm just a fan of his work.)

Jeez, how do they portray the necessary "modifications"? It would also make an excellent film (IMO but what do I know) although it wouldn't be suitable for the squeamish.

I wonder if a certain musician's death, and the recent popularity of a video game that uses the same terminology, have anything to do with this.

The story was published in 2003 and its name was probably inspired by the Bowie album. However, I doubt that this play is an effort to "cash in" as the name is really the only thing in common. The album was inspired by "1984" by George Orwell and thematically its setting is very different from that of Demarchist Chasm City prior to the onset of the Melding Plague. I assume the video game reference you mention is an organisation in the Metal Gear series, which I believe postdates the novella by several years.
